@lje62 I hope your stores didn’t suffer too much damage. I saw lots of south Jersey friends posting pictures and videos of shore towns and some of them looked pretty bad. Fingers crossed for you.
We ended up with close to 30" here in North Jersey. Was not forecast at all! What an unfortunately turn the storm took (for us.)
Oh well. Like the meme going around FB says, we got all of winter in one day.
Well I for one hope that’s all the winter we’re going to get!
They came back, after I shoveled, at 11:30 this morning. ~X(
26" here in suburban DC, though folks near my synagogue were in the low 30"s and North Potomac, which got 36.5", is less than five miles from me. DH successfully got to his conference via Tampa-Houston-London-Frankfurt instead of Tampa-Atlanta-Frankfurt. He gets to miss all the excitement here. S2 is outside shoveling. Not terribly happy about it, either, but since he doesn’t pay rent and I can’t do it…
Lje, I saw the Weather Channel reports about the flooding yesterday and my thought have been with you ever since. Hope things are not bad, but so sorry you have to worry about this again.
Here in HoCo MD, our driveway is plowed and our walkway is shoveled, but we’ve not seen a county snow plow yet. Streets have not been touched. I am guessing it will be tomorrow. There is a website to check out plow progress, but we haven’t been able to get it to work.
LOL yes the “surf city” applies to my favorite vacation spot, Surf City on LBI NJ.
Well my plow guy came and tried to plow but it was TOO MUCH SNOW for him! I have made many calls to other plowers and neighbors with snow blowers and am hopeful someone will come thru. My DH should not be shoveling due to some health issues but he is out there
I have seen terrible footage in Avalon and Stone Harbor NJ, and flooding with huge ice “cubes” on LBI. I hope the damage isn’t too bad. I have no idea what the streets are like in my little town here, as we can’t get down our street yet.

Flights getting cancelled for tomorrow.
My cousin, who was in NYC for a (cancelled) hockey game, posted a video to Facebook that is also on Youtube. Search for snowboarding with the NYPD. I don’t know whether to be thrilled or horrified.
^ I saw that video oldmom!
^^^^^^Ooooo, that was awesome!
Definitely awesome but glad it wasn’t my kid!
Thanks counting down. We got into the two towns that we needed to. One store was messy with mucky , messy water and the restaurant above us had their fire alarm going ( a gentleman saw us go in and came after us to make it stop because apparently it has been blaring since yesterday ) This is a newer construction and was built to allow water to come in and go out again . The floors and walls are concrete so although it’s messy and smells terrible, it will be okay. There was a rather large fire just around the corner from us that burned two businesses , so we are thankful that are problems are easily fixed.
The other store had water in but it was cleaner …going to go down with wet vacs and a generator to try to clean it up …no inventory was compromised , nor our computers.
Clearly we were lucky , but it was also clear that others were not. We left via one of the towns that was all over NBC and ABC networks…some roads were still impassible , but it was pretty bad there.
@oldmom4896 – OK that was hysterical and exhilarating to watch! They covered a lot of ground. Any idea how long they were out there?
The snowboarding video was funny! When I was in school, some kids would hold onto the schoolbus’s bumper as it drove away if the street was snowy. We called it “skitching”.
D1’s college town in WV had one of the highest totals - 40.5"! When I think of how I used to clear snow if I had to, with a dustpan, and used my driver’s license to scrape ice off my windshield…
About 21 inches in my driveway this morning, near Princeton, NJ.
With all the comments about number of inches, it reminds me: Does anyone remember the blooper that has circulated through the years – The female news anchor says to the male news anchor, “So where’s that eight inches you promised me last night?”
How can anyone not love NYC and its energies?
D1 ended up driving in and said the city streets were still padded with snow, much like in the youtube.
