Forget the eggs, bread, flour and TP. Wine and firewood is all you need!
HarvestMoon, don’t forget about mulling spices!
Fingers crossed for all of you in the path of this storm!
Being “stuck” in Boston actually sounds pretty good to me right now!
The path of storm seems to be changing. They are having it more to the south.
I am driving back to NYC tomorrow. Already ordered food from Freshdirect to be delivered Fri morning. I am looking forward to getting stuck in my apartment with a lot of good food and wine, binge watch some good TV series.
United just issued waivers for 27 airports.
I’m about 20 miles outside of DC. It’s not snowing right now.
I figure a 90% chance we’ll lose our power for long enough this weekend so that I’ll have to throw out everything in the refrigerator. I’m going out tonight (in the minimal snow we’re expecting this evening) to stock up on bread, peanut butter, and other non-perishables. I’m intensely sick of having to throw out hundreds of dollars worth of food every time our power company encounters any of the manifestations of Mother Nature.
I’ve never understood why people stock up on eggs and milk. What good are they if the power goes out?
@Marian. if the temperature is hovering in the 20’s, you can put the frozen food on the porch and it won’t unfreeze. Refrigerated stuff can be put in an unheated garage and it will be fine.
@Marian Just move everything outside. It will be the same temp as your refrigerator.

" The NWS has issued a blizzard watch for the Baltimore DC area "
We are supposed to take our daughter back to school in this area on Sunday…so far no updates from the university
Mark I Eyeball App says it’s not snowing in DC (or, at least, in Arlington) yet.
I’m in northern VA. This morning when I left for work they were in the middle of tearing my roof off. I sure hope they finish the job today like they said they would.
Yesterday I mailed my daughter the snow boots (and laptop charger) she left behind when she headed back to school. Hopefully they arrive in time.
And the deer and foxes would find it delicious.
The garage might be a good place for refrigerated food, though. But I have no porch or other protected outdoor area for frozen food.
How about inside a car that’s parked outside?
I’m in the DC blizzard watch area and a recent empty nester. It will just be me and the two cats making French toast, as long as the power holds out. I don’t have a fireplace, so I’m a little concerned about losing heat. I have this little propane heater I bought after an ice storm when D was only 1, but have never used it. It makes me a little nervous, even though it says it can be used indoors.
We have a winter weather advisory for the pm rush tonight, but that is small potatoes compared to what’s on the way. I wish it were April (not the cruelest month in book)!
@Marian - some of us have gas ranges this can be lit manually, or have propane-powered camp stoves.
Great, I’m already missing the first week of school for a DC presentation. Hope this doesn’t force me to miss the second week as well.
I am making chicken soup.
@Marian - I would get a new garbage can or clean out an existing one to store your food outside, just make sure you can close the top tightly.
Unless you’ve got bears, put a cooler outside, open, in the shade, to chill. When it’s good and frozen, put the frozen food inside and close it up. Deer and foxes can’t open coolers. Bears can, so don’t do this if you have bears.
