Snow storm? Really?

Latest reports for the Boston area–not much snow (3-4 inches). He should be fine if traveling on Monday.

Caps-Pens tickets are down to $49, but we won’t be going since Metro is closed this weekend. I drove DH from MontCo to Dulles at 5:45 this am and the roads were fine. Saw a number of cars still on the shoulders from last night’s festivities. The Wilson Bridge was iced over and closed at 6:30 this am, but the Beltway on the north side was dry.

My last trip out will be early tomorrow am to deliver Sunday’s dinner to the women’s shelter (they don’t want us driving out on Sunday, but want to make sure the residents have food) and to get to cardiac rehab. I have soup, quilting projects and TV. Let it snow!

I wish for all east-coast residents that you get to do this: http://jezebel.com/frozen-pants-is-a-chill-trend-in-minnesota-1754235110

Oh how nice it would be attending the San Diego CC meet this weekend instead.
If the electricity goes out I guess we can finally use those adult coloring books for entertainment.

Here in Upstate SC, schools are cancelled for tomorrow and milk, bread, eggs, and toilet paper are flying off the shelves.

We are ready and hoping for lots of snow!

Unfortunately, heard from our insurance adjuster today- DD’s car is a total loss. The adjuster was surprised she walked away form the crash.Apparently she hit the bridge barricade hard enough (front and back) to tweak the car frame. Oh joy, something else to add to our list- buying a ‘new’ used car.

On the other hand, it looks like the snow blower I got the hubby for Christmas will be put to use. Since I am a hoarder, we have enough food to last a few weeks. Even if the power goes out, we have a gas stove so we should survive.

Good Luck everyone in the VA/MD/DE area.

main roads were mostly fine this morning, but traffic was a huge disaster for the commute. They were still alternating Wilson Bridge closures (through/local lanes) after 7am. Couple accidents and we are done for.

Sounds like metro is going to park the trains underground instead of parking the trains outside and leaving the underground clear for trains to operate on that part of the system.

So far, the federal government is holding out.

I saw Obama’s motorcade got stuck in the weather/traffic last night, from Andrews to the White House.

Being a parent is mostly a blessing, but for the reason above, sometimes a curse!

D1 lives in Durham, NC but commutes to grad school in Chapel Hill. I sent her a text saying “PLEASE be careful driving to school/work! Is there any chance school would be cancelled?”

She replied “They just sent out the email. Cancelled!”

Sigh of relief, now I can relax.

Like I said, it’s a burden sometimes, this tendency to worry so much.

@ChuckleDoodle , glad she is OK. We have had those accidents with the kids, too. They walk away but the frame is bent and no good. Unfortunately they never value the car as much as you do and it costs more to replace then they give for it. :frowning:

The basketball game S2 was planning to go to has been moved up to 5pm, but the bus he’d need to take to get home from the game won’t be running after 5pm. I just emailed him to implore him to not bother and stay home. Will he listen? A mother can only hope.

@Singersmom07 - Exactly. It also doesn’t help any that D is/was driving my mom’s car. Mom died last year and D was very close to her so there is an emotional attachment to the car. This is going to be a very long weekend.

But on the bright side- our freezer is full of different flavored ice cream and I get to telework tomorrow! woo hoo.

D just texted to say she switched her flight back from vacation in Florida to Newark to come in tomorrow instead of Saturday. Guess who volunteered to pick her up at the airport? Sigh. I’m too nice.

Definitely fill gas tanks. One of many reasons New Jersey was a nightmare for most people post-Sandy was because of horrendous gas lines we were able to avoid them entirely, but that’s another story. We wouldn’t have pulled off our plot if we hadn’t filled the cars ahead of time.

@ChuckleDoodle, my son totalled his car last March in a similar way. Months later, we got a bill from NY, for fixing the guardrail he hit. There were 4 guys in the car, he hit ice, spun around and hit both front and back. They were all fine.
Other “good” news is we actually got close to 2K more for the car than we paid for it, and we had it for 3 years. The bad news is he has had two other car issues this year that we paid out of pocket for, because otherwise our insurance would be even higher. He did listen and not drive last night, and he left to go back to school tonight to avoid the expected storm here in Maryland. I will be happy when I hear he has arrived safely.

@raclut, I remeber that storm back in 1996. I was very pregnant and stuck at home with my young child for a week. My ex husband was working durig the entire time, and was rarely ever home. It was not a fun time.

I just landed at IAD a little bit ago. The runway is completely dry, and the roads didn’t have a bit of snow on them. Must have all melted away. However, my early morning flight to CLT has already been cancelled, though the storm isn’t supposed to hit till later in the afternoon, I’m assuming because CLT is supposed to get ice. All day till late at night. Sure looks like this storm is going to affect people further south than they’d originally predicted. My final destination was Memphis, which is supposed to get totally slammed with snow tomorrow. Misery all over, drive safe, everyone!

@busdriver, does that mean you’ll be stuck in VA instead of near Baltimore?

Welcome to the neighborhood @busdriver11. Looks like you will be here a few days.

Looks like I might be stuck at a hotel near the Dulles airport. I didn’t realize there was a hotel change, and thought I was laying over elsewhere. But all I care about at this point is if my company doesn’t make me sit at the airport for several hours, and that the hotel doesn’t lose power, God forbid! It doesn’t take much to keep me happy.

Thanks, raclut. Hoping there is time to run out in the morning and grab some essentials, just in case everything shuts down completely. Seems like we have some time. Realistically, wine, popcorn and chips and I’m good!. And maybe a book or two.
