Didn’t need them in a hurry (no urgency at all) , the price was better than in the stores, and I had a credit to use. All three equalled Order on line, saintfan! And there was no need to “hope for the best”. They were available and I ordered them. So, like you, I was saving money, gas, time and I thought aggravation . Well, 3 out of 4 isn’t bad. No clue what happened and why they weren’t able to ship a friggin bag of walnuts. They could have walked down the street to get a bag, for heavens sake! (Not that they would, but they offered to ship some items from another store for another cc’er when they mislabeled and therefore shipped an item that wasn’t as advertised. For me, ended up costing them more, given the credits they ended up giving me (well, when they all eventually process!!)
But they didn’t arrive which means that the service can’t be trusted. Last spring I ordered a tuxedo shirt online from Macy’s. They sent the wrong shirt. I spoke with customer service, explained the issue and was assured that they would send the correct shirt right away as there was a time issue. They made a notation on the order of what was wrong with the first shirt (classic fit rather than fitted). I then ordered the same shirt with a shorter sleeve just in case and paid extra for expedited shipping. Well . . . I got 2 more shirts on the same day and they were BOTH wrong. I was stuck with 3 wrong shirts that I had to walk into the store at the mall to return. I no longer order from Macy’s because I don’t want to have to hope for the best and not be able to trust that they will send exactly what I order in a timely manner.
How expensive can a bag of walnuts be in the store that paying a bit less from JET would be worth the aggravation and follow up?
Macy’s messed up many of my orders as well… Inventory tracking is a big issue when said inventory is spread among many stores and warehouses and is sold via multiple channels (BOPUS, online, etc. ). I see why Jet is having this issue.
saintfan,
When I ordered the walnuts I had no way of knowing they’d cancel that part of the order (and it was part of a bigger order). I ordered them because it was something that I could eventually use (happened to throw out some recently so wanted to replenish) but was in no hurry- was just a matter of “they were cheaper than in the supermarket and I could use them, so why not throw them in to the order and have them on hand”. This was the first time they ever cancelled any part of any order. Had no reason to assume or expect that would happen. Not sure why you are pushing this over and over, and making a mountain out of a molehill. It really doesn’t need a further explanation. Like your macy’s situation, there was no reason to assume that the order would be messed up (though, you too tried to reorder, with a bad outcome). And in the meantime, well if it ever works, I got about $25ish worth of credit for other purchases for a $7 bag of walnuts. Works for me. They did already credit me for half of that. The other credit is what is messing up the current pending order, apparently, as they said there is a glitch in their system affecting sales and credits. Swell.
In the meantime, they have extended their “free shipping” for another week. I don’t really care. Not planning to place another order. In fact, the order I placed 2 days ago is still listed as “in process”, meaning their outside vendor hasn’t responded to it yet.
I am sad they are having so many problems. I really wanted them to succeed.
The items I ordered on Wednesday, Sept 30th came today before noon as well as 1 of 2 items I ordered yesterday. So far so good. Knock on wood. The items I ordered were bulk items so I couldn’t have gotten such a great deal at the local store. For me it was worth it. Will order from them again if anything is needed. Overall I have had a positive experience and I have ordered a total of 4 times. Definitely has saved me time, money, and gas for the car.
Well last I checked mine was still pending from two days ago and they’ve told me that they’re having a problem processing the credits in their system. This will be the last order I placed with them. I will probably tell them if I have to call them not to bother putting any other credit in my account. It will go to waste.
Sometimes errors happen. That doesn’t happen all the time but once in awhile mistakes happen. I have ordered from macys online too because I got a better deal online than the store. Whatever I’ve had delivered from Macy’s has met my expectations. No problems there. Jet being smaller than Amazon may have lesser inventory so sometimes things get sold out or out of stock but then I see the item come available in a day or two. The good deals get sold fast because the pricing is better than the local markets. Definitely less expensive than Amazon. It is my understanding that if someone got a coupon $15 off a $50 purchase you should not be paying any shipping costs. At this time shipping is free on any order because I spent $15 and paid nothing for shipping. For those who have never used jet don’t make assumptions. They offer a free trial. Take advantage of it. Who doesn’t want $15 off their purchase. Can’t get that at the grocery store without clipping a bunch of coupons. Comparison shop and see for yourself how much you are saving. It has been worth it for me. I am a person who tries to save money whenever possible.
My latest order was being fulfilled by an outside vendor who apparently hasn’t responded top the order request.
Jet, if I understand their business model correctly, does not have its own physical inventory but rather serves as a one-stop access portal to other merchants’ stuff. Very hard to keep things straight if you have no control over what is going on in those inventories.
I personally do not want $15 - if that means I am on the hook for a membership in the coming year.
I dont think you’ll be on the hook for membership renewal. I have a year free and they do not have permission to renew or use my credit card to do so.
Some of their stuff gets shipped by them, so I think they may have some warehouse inventory. But a lot is through outside vendors. The billing snafoo and stuff sent that I didnt order- I think thats their computer issue.
Their website says “Trial with no strings attached.” Right now they are giving online $15 off a $35 purchase and shipping is free up to Oct 6th. I am going to try another feature of Jet. Lets say I want to purchase something from another store. If I first go through the Jet site and click on the store I want to order online from I will get cashback to purchase items from Jet. For example if I want to buy something from QVC if I select this site from the Jet site I get 20% cash back to use at jet.com. I think that’s a nice feature.
I dont think its cash back. I think its credit on jet.com
I am pushing it because of my point that personally (others may feel differently) when I order something I want to KNOW that it will be fulfilled correctly and arrive exactly when it’s supposed to. Otherwise I will purchase it in person. I will not order from Macy’s again because I “have no way of knowing” that they will send the right thing at the right time, or that if I pay extra for expedited shipping it will actually arrive faster.
Everyone has their own balance of price / time / convenience / predictability. Again, others may feel differently but I am having trouble understanding where a dollar or two savings per item is worth the extra effort of tracking and following up and wondering when you will get it. Meanwhile, my two items that I ordered Wednesday night on Amazon were at my door when I got home today at 3pm.
Saintfan,
You cannot POSSIBLY ever know with certainty that your order can/will be fulfilled correctly. Case in point your Macy’s tux shirt (s). I had every reason to expect that the order would be fulfilled as it was ordered on line and shown as available. Can’t predict the future. Nothing is perfect. Stuff happens. It was the first of this subsequent cascade of screw ups with jet.
Lets try to simplify this. You seem to fail to want to accept that it was going to be convenient, and cheaper. It was an extra item I happened to order because it was on my mind and I happened to notice the price was good (about 25% or so cheaper than in the store, IIRC). So I added it to the order, as an afterthought. In the meantime, yes, when I was subsequently in the supermarket (after they were cancelled from my online order) I picked up a bag. They were expensive. Would have preferred the lesser price. But whatever. I didn’t need them at the moment (just wanted to replenish a supply in the pantry), so didn’t need to run to the store, and if I could have gotten them for 25% less and have them show up at my door, why not? It didn’t happen, but it was the intent. I let my fingers do the walking often. Much prefer it to jumping in the car and dealing with traffic. It really isn’t that complicated.
You order online. Surely you’ve ordered something that you “could have” run out and picked up, but chose to order on line. In fact, probably the majority of online purchases meet that description.
So you ordered some things from Amazon. Have you ever ordered some extra stuff that maybe you didn’t need at that moment but did so in order to get an “add on” item you wanted? This is similar, only I didn’t need to throw in an extra item, I just decided to on a whim. Haven’t you ever bought something because it was a good price? The walnuts were a good price.
As for balance of price/time/convenience, it seems like some have lots of time to beat this issue into the ground.Honestly, its getting more than a bit tiresome.
Ok, this is weird.
I had a credit on Amazon because I returned an item (ordered the wrong size) and bought the correct size before the credit was applied. So looked around for something I was running low on that I could get with the credit (I share this account with DS, and sometimes when I have credits on there they accidentally “disappear”). So, nope, the walnuts were not a good deal, but I was running low on sweet 'n low and found a good price on Amazon (no comparable deal on jet). So I ordered a box. Couple of days went by and… no package. So I looked at the account just a moment ago and it showed as “delivered”. Huh? Nothing at the front door. So, I ran out in the rain to the mailbox, as sometimes things come smartpost. Nope. Nothing in the mailbox. So, I ran up the driveway, and there, tucked next to the garage door, was a box. Thats not the most unusual issue ( thought 99% of stuff ordered from Amazon comes fedex, and the fedex leaves packages at my covered front door, where it wont get rained on. Noticed at first that it wasn’t an amazon box, and then noticed it was shipped ups. Then, when I opened the box, it had a packing slip from Sams club!! and the box was from Sams Club (which I hadn’t noticed at first). Well, I just looked at the order, and noticed it wasnt one of my usual amazon prime orders. It was an outside vendor (not Samsclub).
So, if perchance this hadnt arrived, or if the order had, perchance, cancelled, buying form an outside vendor is no different than what happened with jet.
Just sayin’
Of course Amazon has external vendors. It discloses at the time of purchase that the packaging and/or vendor are subject to change. However, Amazon has bigger leverage over those vendors. And the feedback system, too!!
Saw the first Amazon 1-hr Prime Now vehicle. It was a Ford hybrid.
All I’m saying is that I didn’t realize or remember (or both) that I ordered the sweet 'n low from an outside vendor. Jets model apparently uses a combination of small warehouses and outside vendors. It’s no different, but agreed that Amazon surely has a lot more clout over it’s outside vendors at this point in time. The other weird thing is that the outside vendor itself bought from an outside vendor. I didn’t order from Sam’s Club. I ordered from some other vendor who then apparently outsourced it in turn to Sam’s Club.
I don’t do add ons. I order specific items that I need that are difficult to find locally or would require running to several stores at several locations to compare. Last week I ordered only a set of filters for my vacuum cleaner. I wanted that one, specific thing, I wanted to order that exact thing when I thought of it in the evening in my jammies and I wanted it before the weekend without needing to go to Sears or Target or wherever after work to find them in person. I also order specific items to drop ship to my kids at school - textbooks, sundries, K-cups, etc. I don’t impulse shop on Amazon or anywhere else online. That’s how I achieve my $$$ saving.
I’m just trying to figure out what the appeal of jet.com is and if they do one thing well enough to attract a large market share. As for time, I am multi-tasking - home from work, watching a little news, checking in with facebook and looking at bookmarked threads that have been active today.
No company can guarantee that an order will be fulfilled correctly and arrive exactly when it is supposed to. They strive for it but can’t guarantee it. Especially around the holidays. Does the post office guarantee a letter will reach within a certain amount of time in regular mail? Sometimes even mail gets lost. Things happen which are out of their control. For example right now there are alerts for hurricane related delays in delivery.
Anyway I got two boxes today from Jet and two more are to be delivered tomorrow. All are being fulfilled by Jet not an outside vendor lets see what happens. These shipments are coming from all over the place. (Ohio, Nevada, New Jersey) It is unfortunate @jym626 had this experience. However I can understand why she added the walnuts to her order because on jet the more items you order the deeper discount you get on your items. I have ordered stuff that I didn’t need immediately. I ordered in bulk like you would at Costco and then I will be good in supply for a few months. I don’t want to be going out during winter weather to shop for this stuff every week so it suits me. ( and I am not big on online shopping) I can say everything I have gotten so far has been the cheapest price I seen those items so far. I am happy to be saving a lot of money without having to sit in traffic and be in crowds at the stores. Has definitely made my life easier. I hope Jet succeeds. It is nice to get the staples online and just buy one bag of fresh groceries at the store.(Milk, fruit, and vegetables) or the local farmers market. The best part of this is that I am not paying any membership fees at this time. This gives me time to focus on other important things.
