So what do you need for orientation?

Do you need any papers filled out or anything? And what goes on during it?

The orientation thread and the one that is stickied to the top of the forum have lots of information and advice.

Also, check your virginia.edu email account. They most recently sent an email with a nice checklist of what to bring and other info.

I have already been, and I didn’t need any of the papers I brought. You need to know all of your scores and the classes you can exempt with them so you know what classes to take, but no one ever checks your grade reports to make sure you are in the right classes.
There is about a two hour block to look through the course catalog and pick classes, but I felt overwhelmed by all the choices and wish I had looked at SIS and all of my choices more before I got there. I would be nice to know at least some of the classes you want to take.

make sure you bring your ID (driver’s license) so you can get your UVA ID

Or passport if your driver’s license isn’t from the U.S. or Canada

do they give out the UVa IDs at the same time or when classes begin?

You may pick up your ID the afternoon of the second day of orientation if you want to stick around. When we went, the center re-opened at 1:30PM and people could turn in their keys, get their IDs, and hit the road, if they were otherwise finished.

You take the picture on the first day and typically get your ID on the second day when you sign out and return your keys. It has this sticker though that says “Do not remove until August XX, 2009” :p
