So What's Your Secret Pleasure?

Talking with some relatives recently, who consider me the big-city sophisticate in the family, they were totally floored at some of the stuff that I enjoyed, that they never would have expected. Many guffaws and surprises when I said I liked :

The novels of Barbara Taylor Bradford—ever since Woman of Substance
The Blue Collar Comedy Tour—Foxworthy, Larry The Cable Guy, and the rest ot them just crack me up.

They would have expected me to say the music opf Philip glass and the plays of August Wilson, I guess, but it made me curious what other hidden little things people enjoy on the sly maybe, whether its Rigoletto or The Three Stooges.

What are your guilty/surprising/ out-of-character/ cultural and entertainment pleasures? The stuff that would make your friends jaws drop when you tell them you like it? Hey. This is an anonymous forums so go ahead, be honest!

I like to read People magazine.

Most people around me (in thier 50s and 60s) say that they have not visited art museum since HS. I love to go there, if I could I would be there every weekend, looking at the same staff over and over and admire it even more with every visit. We have bought a membership to save on parking.

I like country music and Broadway musical music. (I like music with words that make sense or tell stories.) But it’s not a secret. I don’t have a lot of secrets…

And I love popsicles.

I watch a lot of crappy TV. Though many friends know I do, I don’t think they know how much.

wow Miami—I would never consider a museum visit a GUILTY pleasure!

Mine-----Cheetos and beer

A number of my friends were astounded that I was a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer - I think it makes sense though.

Maybe my son’s music? I love Apocalyptica’s music and they are even more fun to watch. (Look up a video on youtube). Cellos, loud rock (metal) music, no shirts, long hair, cute faces, great antics, what’s not to love?

Well it is an entertainment that most people laugh at. I am glad that you do not. But I do not enjoy most of other entertainments except of going to very expensive vacations.

Does spending waayy too much time on CC count :)???

If not…
Love shopping at Goodwill. It’s like a treasure hunt to me. People always seem shocked when I tell them that I am wearing something bought at Goodwill.

Really like Bluegrass music…friends don’t and seem surprised.

I like football. Women friends think I’m crazy. Their husbands are astounded that a) I like it and b)that I actually know the rules/understand the game.

I seem to have an abnormal passion for popcorn and have been known to substitute it for an entire meal…most of my friends know about that one but still think it’s weird.

Steve Martin as the Great Flydini
Drinking Mai Tais in Las Vegas while playing video poker

SYTYCD, American Idol and if it does come back, Project Runway. I am not usually a reality TV person but I like the ones where it does take some talent to continue. I just TiVo them so I can zip past the silly parts.

Great question! Books on how to clear up the clutter in your house . . . which are gradually stacking up, contributing to the clutter.

gummy penguins with the liquid centers from TJs
And I like football too. And baseball. And tennis.
And those stupid real estate shows.
And What Not to Wear…although I rarely watch it.
And old disco music (lots on my ipod)

thanks for that^
now I cant get Donna Summers out of my head

Vanilla bean ice cream with dark chocolate shavings made from a nice European (preferrably Polish) chocolate bar.

Sleep.

I play Mega Millions.

And everybody in the family who has ever teased me about it will be very very sorry one day.

Let’s see …

Grilled chesse (cheddar) sandwiches with ketchup
Vanilla tapicoa pudding cups
Reading the sports section (I can reasonably hold my own with the guys)
JA Jance novels (“beach reading” although I’m rarely there)
Some of my S’s music (Coldplay, Muse … he plays some of these on the piano)
Taking the dogs to the dog park (there is a true social scene there!)

too funny, DougBetsy!

The Twilight book series. True Blood on Hbo. Yodels (cold from the refridgerator). Coconut or Capacino Ice Cream with Herrell’s hot fudge sauce. Haagen Daaz coffee ice cream. Spending the day on the beach at the Jersey Shore (sitting in a lounge chair under an umbrella, reading a good book). A swedish massage. A five o’clock glass of a well made pinot noir. So many guilty pleasures, so little time…

I too love really, really crappy tv. I don’t admit to it much, though.

Chocolate.
