so which dining halls do we use?

I’m not going to the game because I slept in and woke up late (12:30 pm!), had forgotten to get my orange shirt, didn’t feel like dressing up in the sweltering heat, and I was hungry. So I just went to O’hill … I bothered going there cuz Newcomb was closed.

Actually, you’re right that O’hill is better … but I’m not calling Newcomb terrible – if you pick and match rightly you can find yourself with a more than decent meal. Maybe it’s the combination of O’hill’s atmosphere (the hall is filled with sunlight and all is shining! ;)) and morale of the staff who don’t feel like they’re working an assembly line. The other thing that surprised me – the only experience I had with O’hill before was at the Orientation breakfast, is that they have Asian chili pastes. It’s nice to have something other than tobasco sauce.

Well galoisien, you didn’t miss much, 52-7! But you really didn’t need to sleep that late, home at 4 and up at 9:30 is the way to do it ;)

PS, I got all dressed up, and did roast in the sweltering heat (I’m still sticky, time for a shower). But it was really fun dressing up in the bow tie, even if we got our asses kicked.

db, it’s not that bad, I went and got a textbook and some clothes, or a key chain, etc every almost day this week. Maybe my subconscious was splitting up the book shopping to get more clothes ;)

A word to the wise Galoisien – you can NEVER have too much underwear!

OHill was crazy at lunch time – we were there since our son is in the Cavalier Marching Band.

Watching the CMB perform was fun; watching the football game was much tougher. Painful would be a more apt description. USC was quite good on offense and defense. Also very big and fast.

Nevertheless, I think the good news is that the football team is better than the final score might indicate. They’re breaking in some fairly inexperienced players on both sides of the ball, but I believe I saw some things today that we can build on going forward.

For now, let’s hope the glass is half full. I was expecting we’d be pretty overmatched today, so the outcome wasn’t too surprising.

Of course, the other good news is that Virginia Tech lost to East Carolina 27 to 22, compliments of a blocked punt that was returned for the game winning TD. Sweet. East Carolina playing Beamer Ball; I love it!

Congratulate your son on a great performance HHD! The Marching Band was excellent, which is much more than I can say about the football team, but they did put up a good fight against a much stronger rival.

So… 8:25 am at one of those kiosks at Newcomb. Thought the AFC also opened for swimming at 6 am on weekends, so I left the dorm early. It was an excellent morning – bright but early enough that the sunlight isn’t hot, the air is like air-conditioning, the birds are chirping and the cars are few. Virginia mornings seem pretty awesome. :D

But damn…apparently everything here only opens at 9 or 10 am on weekends. Except Clemons and Alderman (I think). Oh come on, what is an early-riser supposed to do for breakfast. Do they think everyone drank too much last night and are sleeping in?

Yes.
I’m an early-riser, I want breakfast when I get up, and I drank too much last night to get up earlier than 10. It’s the weekend, that’s the way the world works.
