So yeah, I'm terrified.

I know this is a pointless thread but it feels good to worry.

I HAVE A HUGE INTERVIEW TOMORROW!
It’s for the nomination for an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. and to a youth leadership conference a few weeks earlier. I had to write a really corny essay on a really corny topic, but it got me into the top 5. It is going to be embarrassing to meet someone who actually read said essay…I was definitely doing a bit of brown-nosing. Agghh I am so nervous!

chill out dude… It’s just talking to some random guy. Nothing to be worried about. Just talk. And don’t sound like a nerd.

“Washington D.C.”?
Tip… if you get selected, and you go to D.C., don’t call it "Washington D.C., only tourist do that - and you’re screaming it right now.
Tip#2… Don’t brown nose, almost everyone can see through brown nosing
Tip #3… Relax

My sister lives there and calls it DC. Is that what all the DC-ers call it?

People who live immediately in DC, or around DC (i.e. northern Virginia and sourthern Maryland) tend to call it DC. Some people who live near DC but don’t frequent going much, tend to call it just “Washington”.
Very very very few natives say “Washington DC”, that’s how - when you’re on the Metro, you can spot a tourist, they usually say “Washington DC”… and are standing in front of the map looking confused :)

Yeah, don’t do the Washington DC thing. It’s just DC.

What conference is this? It sounds intruiging.

Just keep being corny. I did a corny essay and said corny stuff during my interview and ended up winning an all-expense paid trip to DC to shadow my senator.

I imagine it is the Hearst Foundation Senate Youth Program. My best friend won it and is the girl for our state. Her essay was the corniest and most brown-nosey (?) thing I have ever read. I think they love that kind of stuff.

Ugh, why would anyone degrade himself like that for an acceptance?

yeh we call it DC in here. I live in Northern VA and i have never heard anyone say Washington D.C. Lose the Washington part.

^ Same, go NoVA.

Sorry, I’ll avoid the tourist-speak. No, it’s not Hearst, it’s actually sponsored by local power companies. I won the trip, corny essay and all. :</p>
