I, too, felt Ryan and Ricky were a little flat tonight. I’m afraid they may be in danger. I like Alexander and would like to see him dance with one of the all-stars. I kind of think he and Sasha are mismatched a little. He’s champagne, she’s beer. Just my opinion and I admit I am no dance expert.

Wow. I think Sasha is amazing!!! Alexander is the weak one for me…

I didn’t say she was weak. I just think they are mismatched. Partly because her style and strength make him appear weak when I think maybe he is better than he appears. I think if he were paired with a more delicate dancer, he would really shine.

Exactly!!

Maybe they will finally break the “couples only” habit and not eliminate a ‘couple’. Sasha lacks the fluidity the the other girls have. I’m not a Ryan fan either. I hope one of those two go. Not sure which boy I would cut. Alexander was much improved - I’d hate for him to go. Maybe Ryan’s partner?

I loved the “Just the way you are” number.

Every time the judge with the shaved head (Sonya?) says whatever she says, then follows it with “you understand what I’m saying?”. i sit here thinking “No, I have no idea at all what you just said”

I was pretty much underwhelmed by the numbers tonight. I’m not sure if it’s because each couple did two numbers, therefore, the choreography was not as involved and/or they didn’t have as much time to perfect it? I’m no dance expert, so I really don’t know.

I am not a Jess fan, but I thought he did a really great job on both of his numbers. They were out of his area of expertise and he looked like he was having fun and giving it his all. The judges kind of dissed him on his second number and gave his partner the kudos, but I though he outperformed her.

Not a great show tonight overall. Is two dances too many to get a really top quality performance for them all? The choreography was generally underwhelming, as well.

Anyone notice that Ryan often does not fully extend her leg/point her toes completely ??- not finished from top to bottom to me. Her cha cha was full of mistakes and disjointed movements.
Liked Clarice and Jess’s first a lot- she is a very clean dancer.
Nice having three experts for a change. Nice to hear some real criticism for once. Hope the dancers can understand what they are asking them to improve!!!

Ryan should be out after this week and being in the bottom three so many times. Ricky was so much better, so hope he is not pushed out with her.

^Agree with swimmersmom about Ryan being one to be cut. More than just her technique being off, she does NOT have the “emotional maturity” or sex appeal needed to “sell” the dance. She should study Caitlynn more closely in that regard.

I thought Sasha danced well tonight and will be surprised if she is in the bottom 3.

Christopher Scott choreography didn’t do it for me tonight.

Now that the current parnerships are over, it’s every dancer for themselves tomorrow night. I think it will be Ryan and Alexander going home. I’m more sad to be possibly be seeing Alexander going home than Ryan. Her lack of emotional maturity is really starting to get on my nerves.

Melanie and Marko’s 2nd dance was really a thing of beauty but most other dances very average as many point out…

IMO:

Sasha and Alexander had two strong dances tonight. So did Jess and Clarice; their final number was my favorite of the night.

Ryan is now the weakest of the girls, by a considerable margin. But the judges won’t let her go for at least several weeks.

The guys are growing on me.

Melanie is the only dancer who hasn’t been asked to stray very far from her own genre – until tonight, when she did a less-than-stellar ballroom. She’s being set up to win, but we’ve known that since auditions.

My D noticed in Week 1. All of the other girls have great leg extension, but Jordan really excels at this. Watch her toes. Personally, I noticed Ryan’s hands and arms first. No one in my D’s studio would have gotten away with those hands.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and SYTYCD–two of my favorite things in the world all in one package!

Much as I enjoy the show, I do think we haven’t yet seen any really outstanding dances this season. Just for old time’s sake look on Youtube for Benji and Heidi’s “Black Mambo” dance from season 2 or Heidi and Travis Walls’ “Bench” dance from the same season and prepare to be blown away all over again. Hoping we have a few “moments” like those soon.

^Season 2 was amazing. Benji Schwimmer was a ballroom dancer and I think he may have been the only ballroom dancer to have won. Dmitry, who went on to be one of the DWTS’s professional dancers, was also from season 2. Would love to see Benji guest judge someday!

I am looking forward to the announcement of the all stars tonight! Who would you LIKE to see on the show? Any predictions as to who you think will be asked?

I agree there hasn’t been much that’s timelessly memorable – yet. But when I think of my most memorable dances from last year, they were both very late in the season. Remember Alex and Twitch?!

Yes! What an awesome pairing. That was such a loss (for him and for all of us) when Alex was injured. :(

I absolutely hated the two “hip-hop” numbers choreographed by the same guy last night; I didn’t catch his name, but they were the invisible children-themed one and the “Just the Way You Are” one. The routines looked like very amateur, white-bread hip-hop to me (although, admittedly, I am no expert). I love Jess and Melanie (although I did not like the tango she and her partner did last night. And like another poster, I thought Jess was better and more animated than his partner in the jive). I also love Sasha, who is a strong and emotive dancer, but last night for the first time and in her first dance I noticed that her leg extensions and arm movements do not have the polish of, say, Caitlynne, and she doesn’t seem nearly as flexible as some of the other female dancers.

The less-than-stellar choreography, along with less practice time due to two dances per couple?, made last night underwhelming for me, too. And have they totally dispensed with trying to maintain the illusion that dancers are randomly assigned styles of dance?

Absolutely nothing from last night that I’d choose to watch again, which might be a first for me. Melanie’s good in her genre, but she’s gotten almost every routine in (or really close to) her genre. I want to see people who manage to deliver outside a core genre, which is what those who’ve made it into the top 10 have generally demonstrated very well. Her excursion last night into ballroom was blech. And the ballroom choreographer need to be put on a choke chain and told to make sure that each of the ballroom dances they choreograph sticks to the dance definition and quit with the excessive lifts.

Ryan can go home tonight. I’m still irked that they tossed Iveta in order to keep Ryan.

I know I am late to the dance, pun intended. Just to put in my opinion, I didn’t read all the postings because we are way behind watching the shows. We have watched every season, I have a D1 who is heading off to major in dance this fall. I love watching the show with her because she sees technique issues that drive her crazy and she points them out to me. I sometimes miss that stuff. I hate it when someone clearly falls out of a turn or other such thing and the judges ignore it. We need to continue to support the arts and shows like this. I know it is out there at times but they want good ratings to keep it on the air and people watching. I personally love Mary Murphy and my dgt would love to hear one of Mary’s screams after she dances should she ever be lucky enough to make the show. Also, in the beginning posts someone was mentioning the “experience” of the dancers. Twitch, who they promoted as being just a b-ball dancer was actually in the movie Hairspray before SYTYCD, Adam Shankman was the director of that movie. Just felt that was kind of interesting.

Ok–you can boo me now–but I don’t think Melissa’s body type is suited for every type of dance, particularly ballroom. I know she is solid muscle, but she looks kinda chunky and heavy sometimes. I especially thought that in the Tango last night.

Does anyone think Mitchell could win ?

musicmom1215 in post # 238, did you mean Melanie?
