^^ My D took a hiphop class after years of ballet training. She mastered the choreography quickly, but the ballet posture was too ingrained for her to ever make it look like real HH. She couldn’t do the down-ness, the slouch, what these judges call the swag. They’ve criticized other dancers for not having it. Melanie didn’t have it.

The judges surely thought she did. So did I.

churchmusicmom, I will go rel-look at that … I remember them dancing but honestly didn’t even remember it was hip hop!

Speaking of the ‘down-ness’ of hip hop … that must be why my 17- and 19- year old kids roll their eyes when I jokingly try to strike a hip hop pose. I’m pretty sure I’m missing more than the ‘down-ness’. This mom ain’t got no swag.

^I’m pretty sure Vermonters are “swag-less”…

jshain, I’m pretty sure you’re right! Although I have seen a few kids almost pull it off, but it should looks funny when they try to rap. ha ha

Is Caitlynn anyone else’s favorite? She is stunning at every single dance style she’s done. She really needs to take up ballroom, she is perfect for it. The way she handled herself in the foxtrot was absolutely stunning (except for the fact that tadd brought the quality of the dance down, as he does). Tadd is the least versatile of the dancers and the least likely to be hired. His upper body is way to stiff for that to happen and his shoulders are always odd and distracting. Unfortunately Caitlynn will remain underappreciated. I will start voting next week just for this young lady.

Anyone still think Melanie can’t do hiphop? :)

I thought she did great with T’witch (or how ever he spells his name nowadays…)

Twitches body was just… damn. Melanie deserves to win. Caitlynn unfortunately was just good but not amazing. Uhhh. I doubt Melanie could’ve pulled off the whacking like Sasha… all of them are just amazing.

Agree. I just voted for Melanie and Sasha tonight. The guys are great but nobody would break my heart if they did not make the finals. Sasha and Melanie MUST be there!!!

I voted for the first time this season, and I voted for Sasha. I actually did not think Melanie’s hip hop was that great. I kept thinking of Twitch’s hip hop with Alex Wong, which was amazing. Melanie did not come up to Alex’s level, IMHO.

I did not think Melanie’s performance was great tonight either-- good, but a little “Vermonty”:)

Tyce took some hits for his less than stellar choreography in recent weeks, but tonight he may have created THE dance of the season. For me, Sasha has gone from someone who may not have been worthy of being in the top 12 a few weeks ago to the one to beat. She has been the performed the best in all the various forms of dances. I’m voting for Sasha!

I have to say that Caitlynn’s hair is driving me absolutely crazy. In her solo it was flying all over the place, in her face half the time, and sooo distracting. Plus those heavy bangs are childish. If she has to wear it long, at least she should put it in a neat chignon or something, and pull back the bangs. I want to see dancing, not hair.

I think this is the first year my favorite dancer hasn’t been a guy. All three of them are somehow lackluster, especially weak in their acting/emoting abilities. (I miss Jess.) Like Nigel, I keep switching my allegiance between Sasha and Melanie. I did think that the whole “oh Sasha, you must have suffered a horrible loss and it shows in your dancing” thing was overwrought, though. For all we know, her big loss was not getting the right video game for Christmas.

Lil C wears me to a frazzle with his invented vocabulary and verbal meanderings.

Lil C is the personification of circumlocution.

I also didn’t think Melanie’s hiphop was terrific, although it was better than her first one. But compare it to Sasha’s routine with Twitch. Just not as good.

IMO Caitlynn was the best dancer tonight. This is her third ballroom, and she far outshines either of the other girls in that style. Her second piece tonight was stunning. She’s peaking at the right time.

It’s time for Tadd to go.

That’s what my D kept noticing…those abs, those abs.

Melanie should win; Sasha probably will. I also thought the whole “pain she has experienced in her life” was kind of…what…maybe the slightest bit racially twinged? Would they have said that to a white girl from Vermont?

Right on the guys, too. I’m trying to remember which guys blew me away at the beginning. Other than Marko, I didn’t think those would be the top three guys. D is in love with Ricky, but that is because he is a cheerleader. He replied to a Ttweet of hers and she says she is going to save it forever.

The tour ticket pre-sale date came and went and we don’t have a burning desire to buy tickets.

I think Ricky should go. Not one of his dances has been ‘wow’ for me. He is a good technician but not much else. Caitlynn is amazing and has just dominated ballroom but has lacked that ethereal emotional quality that Melanie and Sasha’s performances have been drenched in recently.

Are they planning to have one guy and one girl in the finals? If so, that would really be awful and unfair to Melanie and Sasha who are the best dancers of the final 6.

I remember that last year, it came down to 3 – Lauren, Robert and Kent. I’m not sure if they started the finale with 4 and one was eliminated early in the show, or what. But don’t worry, Caitlynn goes home tonight unless the viewers save her. The judges have made it clear for weeks that they’re planning a Sasha-Melanie showdown.

It’s really too bad they cannot keep ALL the remaining girls and just keep one of the guys (Marko). For me that’s the top 4, regardless of gender. I think Melanie is the best technical dancer in her genre (contemporary) of all the remaining dancers, but not the most versatile. I think Sasha and Caitlyn are both more versatile than Melanie. As Nigel pointed out last night, Melanie has been dancing within her style more than any of the other dancers. Last night, when she finally went far outside her “comfort zone”, with that Hip-hop routine, I thought she was just okay. I think the judges all chose not to give her any luke warm reviews this close to the finals. I also agree with LasMa that Caitlyn peaked at the right time. I would also suggest that Sasha’s first-time on SYTYCD doing that Whacking dance with Ricky was kind of “whacky” and not the time to experiment with a new dance style. I hope that doesn’t cost her a chance in the finals. After all, she DID have two of the most memorable dances of the season (Hip-hop with Twitch and last night’s wall routine with Kent) leading up to the finals.

I am pretty sure they will eliminate a guy and a girl tonight and 4 will be in the finals. I am pretty sure that is also what they did last year.

It’s funny how different opinions can be. I thought Melanie did great in her hiphop, though the choreography was NOT my favorite. Mostly, I did not relate at all to the music. Caitlyn, though she’s a great technician and a beautiful girl, just does not do it for me at all. Sasha is incredible and I won’t mind at all if either she or Melanie wins. NONE of the guys are up there with Sasha and Melanie, IMO.

So, regardless, it will be a fun show! And I do not know what I will do after long and tiring choir rehearsals on Wednesday nights after next week. :(
