Social Life

I know this has been asked multiple times, but I seriously need to hear it again.

I’m probably going to end up at UCSD, which I’m fairly happy with EXCEPT for what I’ve been hearing about the social life/environment.

I am a very sociable person w/ close friends but with a wide circle of acquaintances that I enjoy being with. I guess I would be the semi-party type without being drunk. I mean, yes, underage drinking happens but I’m not the type to get wasted and make a fool out of myself. I enjoy being around people. I love parties, I love weekends and I love getting to know new people.

Where would I find people like that at UCSD?

greek life, sd board club, surf club.

I thought that there wasn’t really a Greek life. If so, which sorority is best?

There’s a large Greek presence in UCSD–just no Greek Houses on campus.

Anyway, regarding choices of sororities, do you consider yourself slutty?

Not at all. I’m not prude either, but I’m very down to earth and I have a lot of self-respect. I’m looking more at Panhellenic sororities rather than Asian-interest etc. ones.

AChiO is probably the most prevalent of the Panhellenic sororities that don’t convey that other image.

http://www.panhellenicucsd.org/page.php?page_id=1352

“Anyway, regarding choices of sororities, do you consider yourself slutty?”

Ouch…

What other sororities are “less slutty” in your eyes? What about Kappa Alpha Theta?

they’re all gay.

That’s lame. I was looking forward to rushing.

I’m really looking forward to rushing. I just don’t wanna get hazed.

are there any really diverse sororities on campus b/c the asian sororties look a bit superficial.

are you seriously saying all sororities on campus except for AChiO are slutty? Come on, there’s got to be more than one.

can anyone who goes to UCSD actually dispute the rumor that UCSD is one of the most socially dead campuses. Thats one reason I don’t like UCSD.

Yeah, seriously. Is UCSD REALLY and TRULY socially dead?

I’ve visited but never really gotten that “dead social life” experience because I was only there on a tour during the summer…

I went to the Bay Area reception and ask a junior that goes there “if the campus is socially dead?” He said it depend on the person and what they like to do. He also said that personally he never gets bored.

I also talk to my friend who is a freshman and she said that if you want alot of things to do take your car, so that you can do stuff outside of La Jolla.

I’m not going to have a car my first year, so I need to be able to get to places that are remotely entertaining without a car. Any ideas? Public transportation? How is that?

I’m saying AChiO is the biggest one–just wait until Fall to go to Rush Events and to see how you like each sorority,

Goody. So how do you get around UCSD w/o a car?

Free bus passes, or you find a friend with a car.

If you’re looking for the typical college “Hey, let’s go get drunk and find some girls/guys!” then you’re going to want to find a way to get to SDSU on a regular basis. If, however, you can find actual ways to entertain yourself, there’s plenty to do on-campus and around. Esp. in fall quarter there are groups that offer surfing excursions (InterVarsity is one), RAs take their floors to the beach, and there’s a movie theater right across the road from Revelle, among other things.

But more on public trans. The Parking Office issues free Bus Stamps that go on your UCSD ID card, that allow you to ride certain routes for free. I believe you can get as far as SDSU with this, but I am not positive. For a full list of locations, you should probably check out the UCSD transportation website.
