I know this has been asked multiple times, but I seriously need to hear it again.

I’m probably going to end up at UCSD, which I’m fairly happy with EXCEPT for what I’ve been hearing about the social life/environment.

I am a very sociable person w/ close friends but with a wide circle of acquaintances that I enjoy being with. I guess I would be the semi-party type without being drunk. I mean, yes, underage drinking happens but I’m not the type to get wasted and make a fool out of myself. I enjoy being around people. I love parties, I love weekends and I love getting to know new people.

Where would I find people like that at UCSD?

Not at all. I’m not prude either, but I’m very down to earth and I have a lot of self-respect. I’m looking more at Panhellenic sororities rather than Asian-interest etc. ones.

I went to the Bay Area reception and ask a junior that goes there “if the campus is socially dead?” He said it depend on the person and what they like to do. He also said that personally he never gets bored.

I also talk to my friend who is a freshman and she said that if you want alot of things to do take your car, so that you can do stuff outside of La Jolla.

I’m not going to have a car my first year, so I need to be able to get to places that are remotely entertaining without a car. Any ideas? Public transportation? How is that?

Free bus passes, or you find a friend with a car.

If you’re looking for the typical college “Hey, let’s go get drunk and find some girls/guys!” then you’re going to want to find a way to get to SDSU on a regular basis. If, however, you can find actual ways to entertain yourself, there’s plenty to do on-campus and around. Esp. in fall quarter there are groups that offer surfing excursions (InterVarsity is one), RAs take their floors to the beach, and there’s a movie theater right across the road from Revelle, among other things.

But more on public trans. The Parking Office issues free Bus Stamps that go on your UCSD ID card, that allow you to ride certain routes for free. I believe you can get as far as SDSU with this, but I am not positive. For a full list of locations, you should probably check out the UCSD transportation website.
