My brother in law was killed in Iraq in 2004.</p>

Best friend’s ex (they broke up because he left, but we’re all still great friends) is going to be deployed in one month to Afghanistan.
Another one of my old friends has been in Afghanistan since November.
A classmate’s son is in Afghanistan now on his third deployment. Never met him, but I am close to his mom.</p>
<p>I have two cousins in the reserves who are just waiting to get the deployment notice. Military families suck.</p>
<p>I don’t anyone from the city I’m from enlists. If there’s an enlistment office here, it’s empty at all times. </p>
<p>Since we’re throwing “Not recently” in there too, my grandpa fought in Vietnam. That’s about as recent a military background we have in our family.</p>
<p>I think one of my cousins got deployed in Afghanistan.</p>
