Son likely moving to Seattle -- devastated parents need advice

Since I followed my husband after his post-doc from Texas to Illinois, I would be a hypocrite for ever asking my daughters to consider staying nearby. Actually, and you may not like this answer - I first followed him from Texas to Wisconsin, where he did his Ph.D.; then we ended back up in Texas for his post-doc, and I really, really missed the Midwest. He also had a job offer in Texas, but after careful consideration (with an appropriately timed cockroach scurrying across our kitchen floor) we chose to return to the Midwest. However, neither one of our families was here, so we really kind of started over, and have been here for 18 years. Just don’t think I could ever move back to Texas - my body can’t handle the heat anymore. I can add layer upon layer upon layer of clothing in the cold, but can only take off so many clothes when it’s hot (and even then you might not be comfortable)!

Just be prepared for anything, including a range from never returning to the East Coast to live, to living on the West Coast for a year and returning to the East Coast permanently.

Indeed. And we eat our prisoners.
