<p>Anyone here have experience in writing songs?</p>

<p>I’ve been working on one with a friend (we play keyboard and guitar) and came up with an okay chord progression, intro, riffs, etc, but we can’t come up with a decent vocal melody. My singing voice isn’t bad but we just can’t come up with anything. We’ve tried just singing/humming over the riff but nothing sounds right.</p>

<p>Any tips? Should we write lyrics first?</p>

<p>I’ve played gigs at a local skatepark with a metal band and wrote acoustic songs that my friends and their friends apparently love. I usually write a catchy and melodious riff oozing with emotion and then make lyrics fit to the song and how it makes me feel, it feels natural…</p>
