my kid got accepted to both, which would be the better option looking ahead towards residency, is there a stigma if you go to SD ? It’s a CUNY , compared to Stonybrook which is a really good SUNY.
Two things to be aware of at Sophie Davis:
-
The program is desired to train doctors in the following: internal medicine, geriatrics, pediatrics, ob/gyn, and family medicine. If a student’s interests lie elsewhere, this is probably not the program for them.
-
Sophie Davis’ training hospitals are: St. Barnabas, Staten Island University Hospital, Harlem Hospital, Jacobi/North Central Bronx and Forest Hills Hospitals. This selection can be a limiting factor.
Admission to Sophie Davis includes admission to medical school right out of high school. This is a huge benefit because the majority of medical school applicants are not accepted to any medical school. The Sophie Davis program also provides huge financial savings.
Thank you, I guess we’ll do Sophie Davis The original plan was to do a degree course at Stonybrook then start trying for Med School, but you’re right, a bird in hand…
FWIW, my daughter picked Sophie, it’s hard, she was an A student in HS and she still found it extremely rigorous, but hopefully she’ll start med school this year. So thanks to all the people that recommended that she accept the offer
