Sophomore Entry

A unified thread for those of you who are thinking about applying for sophomore year because you didn’t get accepted this year or maybe you’re a newcomer. I know there are loads of people reapplying for 2013, so feel free to ask around!

I’m reapplying as a sophomore!

^same :)))

ok so im just here to wish you all good luck for next year.
last year i applied to 5 top schools for my freshman year. generally speaking i applied to HADES. I was rejected everywhere. not even a waitlist. i had top grades and played sports. i didn’t get it and i was miserable.
this year i reapplied to 9 schools (yes, excessive i know). I immersed myself in sports and academics and became a recruit level athlete. I broadened my spectrum of schools that I applied to and fell in love with some schools typically considered “Tier 2”. I was accepted at all 9. not even a waitlist. I was given financial aid at some and i am going to be attending a HADES next year.
my advice for you? find something you love and emphasize it all over your application. do you love field hockey and human rights? talk to all the coaches during your interviews (special form or mention when you call) and write your essays on human rights. talk about your sport and your interests ALL THE TIME. it may seem excessive and annoying. it’s not. you’re showing commitment and interest.
good luck. if you have any questions feel free to ask or PM me.

I second crewgirl419’s amazing story  Mine is nowhere near as astounding as hers, with NINE acceptances (good job, girl, you must be amazing  ) but similar nevertheless.

Last year I applied to Milton, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Andover, Exeter, and Concord (sort of a safety in my mind). I was waitlisted at 5 schools and rejected at Andover. I was so disappointed and I lost almost all confidence in myself.

This year, I reapplied to a different set of schools - Milton, Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Choate, Groton, Lawrenceville, and St. Paul’s. I received 1 acceptance (Lawrenceville), 2 waitlists (Milton & Hotchkiss), and 4 rejections. Just yesterday, Milton moved me off their waitlist.

So the moral of this story is that if you are persistent and try again, there is a good chance things will work out for you. Just keep on working hard and show passion for everything you do. :)
