How much homework will I have? Should I drop something? Should I add something? Any time management advice?
My classes are: AP Lang, AP US Gov, Italian, Algebra 2, Biology, Journalism (possibly Art or Theater depending on sign- ups), and Bible study.
Extracurriculars: Guitar lessons once a week, piano lessons once every other week/ practice for about an 1 1/2-2 hours a day, Speech (extemporaneous and impromptu) practice for about an hour a day, volunteer tutor/mentor for 2 hours on Mondays, and I’m going to apply to write for my school newspaper.
It might not seem like much to some, but for someone with subpar time management skills and somewhat severe mental health issues it is.
AP Gov should be fine along with your other classes. EC’s look manageable. The only thing I would recommend dropping is AP Lang (time management)
In my school it usually goes:
H English 1-> H English 2 -> H English 3 -> H English 4 or Expos Writing (From Rutgers) or Academic English Elective (Myth & Comp, Independent Study, etc)
H English 1 -> H English 2 -> AP Lang or AP Lit -> AP Lang or AP Lit or Expos or AEE
English 1 -> H English 2 -> H English 3 ->H English 4 or AP Lit or AP Lang or Expos or AEE
English 1 -> English 2 -> H English 3 -> H English 4 or AP Lit or AP Lang or Expos or AEE
English 1 ->English 2 -> English 3 -> English 4, H English 4, AP Lit, AP Lang, Expos or AEE
There are many paths. You can either a) Take AP Lang and drop down to Honors if it’s too much or b) Take honors this year and AP Lang junior year.
If I were you, I would drop AP Lang. At my high school, freshman year and sophomore year English classes are either regular or Honors. Do most people in your high school take AP Language sophomore year or junior year? AP Lang includes a lot of work (reading, writing, etc.), and it is important to leave adequate time and focus on that class. I would take AP Lang as a senior. If you cannot do that, then I would drop AP Lang and take Honors English. You really don’t want to be overwhelmed!! I think the rest of your schedule looks perfect, and your ECs look nice as well!
I agree with the above not to take AP lang as a soph, unless that is common at your school. I would take it as a junior, which is when the vast majority of people take it. In addition to being a good life skill, it will be invaluable for your college application essays.
I say drop AP Gov or Lang. Gov is extremely unnecessary for a sophomore. Lang is typically for juniors.
At my school the course for Lit and History goes:
Freshman Lit (required, no AP or honors) -> Sophomore Lit (required, no AP or honors) -> Mythology/American Lit/American Lit H (APLAC test strongly recommended)/British Literature -> See everything in Junior year minus both American Lit Courses. Contemporary Lit, AP Lit
No history freshman year -> World History (required, no AP or honors) -> APUSH/US History -> Any combination of the following pairs of econ and gov (semester courses): AP Gov/Reg Gov and AP Macro/Reg Macro.
I would drop AP HIV and take something like APA WORLD HISTORY or AP HUMAN GEO or AP EURO HISTORY those would be easier to manage if your school offers them
lol HIV I meant AP GOV sorry
