Well it was a very hectic week at work, but now it’s calm and I wanted to relax. Husband usually grills and we eat after/during the Sopranos on Sunday. (watch East Coast feed @6).
Since it is the last episode, I thought I would let H have a rest. The local paper has “Carmela’s Lasagna with Basil Leaves”. I have basil growing all over and need to do something with it. Another couple was at the store with the same article so I guess I’m not the only idiot. It took me two hours just prep today, and that doesn’t include the sauce I made but gave up on yesterday. I hope the dish cooks up ok. I had to go to the store today for the sauce in the jar.
I’m going back to my easy microwave recipe next time.
My husband says his mom made sauce with just tomatoes. I have cookbooks with just tomatoes, garlic, oil but it doesn’t work for me. What am I doing wrong?

Share with us the title of your “local paper” (if there’s an online version), so that we may see the recipe, pretty please?

hope this works I am so computer dumb

It is from Laura Groch The Californian

The website has the meat sauce, the paper did not-I probably would have messed up anyway.

What was wrong with your sauce? The recipe looks reasonable to me, and I make pretty good Italian sauce (meat sauce, meatless, “fresh”, quick and/or traditional) and I’m half Irish/half Jewish ;).

A sauce with just olive oil, garlic and tomatoes might appeal to some (including me), but most would like more herbs (oregano, basil), tomato paste or puree and possibly some meat and onion.

I didn’t have the website recipe, the paper left it out. I probably would have tried it if I had it. My sauce was thin and bland, it was from the first Sopranos cookbook I happen to have. I added some oregano but left out the basil since the lasagna had basil leaves. I think tomato paste or puree might have helped but I didn’t have any. I did add some of my sauce to the canned.
The newspaper copy called for meat sauce so I added browned Italian sausage. I need to ask my SIL from PA, she’s married into an Italian family. Husband grew up in NJ. His mom is gone so I can’t ask her. I am working against a memory and years of Barrilla, Ragu, etc.
