SOS....F on first semester transcript

Hello all,
I applied ED to Barnard College and was deferred, but felt as though I had a good chance of being admitted from the deferred pool, seeing as I was accepted into their fly-out program/had a successful on-campus interview. After being deferred, I applied to other schools like Vassar, Oberlin, and Brown. However, mental health and familial issues steered me away from my usual academic success and I ended up with an F in A.P Music Theory. The lowest grade I have gotten in all of high school was one B my first semester of freshman year, and have a current unweighted GPA of 3.9/ACT of 30. I have taken 5 A.P/Honors courses not including A.P Music, and have received all A’s in those classes. This is a very unusual occurrence in my academic performance, and I am not sure how this will affect my admission into these colleges, especially Barnard taking me after deferring me. I want to see if my principal will be able to expunge this from my transcript.
(I plan on majoring in political science/international relations, and don’t even bother asking why I took A.P Music Theory because I do not know either)

  1. Have you talked to your GC about your mental health/family issues?
  2. Can you talk to them about being able to make up work in AP Music Theory?
  3. It was probably good that you spent your time on the core classes
  4. Can you withdraw from the class?
