Accepted to cox. No additonal scolarship
S24 stats: 3.6 GPA, ACT 27; OOS. Extensive ECâs, started own business.
Hoping someone might have some intel. DD24 was put on the waitlist for Cox. Is being put on the waitlist worse than being deferred to regular decision? I would think that we would want to be deferred first and foremost, but she was put on the waitlist right away, meaning they donât even want to consider her for the next round. Is that the right way to intepret it?
I have no intel, but I believe smu is still taking applications until January 15. Your daughter is truly in a waiting game based on who else applies, gets accepted, and chooses to attend. Cox is becoming more competitive every year. Itâs hard to get in because the program itself is hard. I know because my son is in Cox. I suspect they look very closely at the rigor of the high school classes taken and at SAT scores. As it is, even the average SAT of last yearâs BBA scholars was 1530. AVERAGE! All I can say is be patient, which is hard. If itâs any consolation, my kid loves being at SMU, and heâs super impressed with Cox.
Does anyone have info on merit $? D24 accepted to Cox but the price! No merit in her letters of acceptance. No way to submit housing deposit w/o overall registration and I donât want to pay the $800 and limit any opportunities for merit. But we also would like to get in line for housing. Any info would be great!
My daughterâs SMU acceptance letter included $100k in merit and her acceptance letter into Cox included an additional $20k in merit for the honors program.

Wow- that is amazing congrats to her! Is this her top choice? I think mine would choose Cox if she can get the price down.

Can you share your Dâs stats? My son got the $25k year in his SMU acceptance but didnât know Cox came out last night. Heâs at school now so we canât check!
4.5w/3.95uw, 1500 SAT, lots of ecâs, asb exec board, two varsity sports and captain, DECA with national placement, Girls State, Summer internship at accounting firm
She is waiting on more decisions before narrowing down. She really likes SMU though.

Any thoughts on placing the enrollment deposit to secure housing (place in line) and still hoping for merit?
If you pay deposit early you get priority in housing?

There is still hope! My DS got in Cox regular decision last yr after he was admitted to SMU and deferred to Cox at EA. Show interest! I donât have any intel of waitlist vs deferred for Cox at EA.
My DS was accepted, but how do we find out to what school? He applied to Dedman but his letter made no mention of it. TIA!

OOS daughter accepted with $25k a year scholarship . 4.0/4.52, 1410 SAT not submitted, 5 APs, many honors classes, 30 hours college course work with all Aâs, strong debate team record and senior year on a CC team, judges debate tournaments, theater performances for 3/4 years, year long internship at a history museum, worked all four years of high school, good volunteer hours, founder and president of an active political club, ASB, high leadership, and many other activities.
Not sure- that is my question: 1. Paying deposit early places student into housing line? 2. Paying deposit reduces chance for merit scholarship?

Smu requires all 1st and 2nd years to live on campus. Housing deposits are not an issue.

Other than Cox, Lyle and Meadows everyone is admitted to Deadman (Iâm a Deadman grad with a Meadows kid) congrats!

Housing deposits have nothing to do with scholarships. Theyâre not even related. I wouldnât make a connection between them.

most other schools have separate enrollment and housing deposits hence you can pay the housing w/o the enrollment- not SMU itâs the one $800 deposit for enrollment & housingâŠjust donât want to give SMU impression we are enrolling (worried if they get this impression they will not render any available merit) however would like to pay the deposit to secure my D24 place in line for housing (assuming earlier place = better housing options)
