My son is applying to SMU Cox. He is TO, has a 4.0 UW 4.27 W, 10APs and decent ECs.
We were wondering if anyone has received the info to set up their portal? S25 applied a few weeks ago now and is receiving emails inviting him to the Cox open house etc. but nothing for a portal.
My OOS son (Maine) applied test-optional EA Oct 13. His UW gpa is just shy of 4.0, three-sport 4 year athlete (captain 3x), started his own food business 5 years ago, leadership roles on campus, very strong LOR’s, and I am an SMU alumnae. He put down he is interested in business but did not identify as a direct-admit applicant (not even sure you can do this, or if they just select the students they want for direct admit). I wish they did rolling admission. January is a long way away!
If he entered Business as his first choice major, then his application will be reviewed by the business school admissions after it has gone through the general SMU admissions. If he did NOT enter business as his first choice major, then Cox business school will not see his application (if this is the case, I suggest you call SMU and get this changed if you can).
Admission decisions should come out in December. Good luck!
I think it’s December for EA right?
My son is similar, 4.0 UW, hoping for Cox, decided to go test optional although I’m not sure that was the right decision.
Their test scores seem really out of scale— but not very many people submit them. If memory serves me correctly, less than 20%.
We were at SMU recently, and in the Cox info session they posted the following for admitted class of 2028:
ACT mid 50% Business Direct - 31-33
SAT mid 50% Business Direct - 1390-1460
Average GPA Business Direct - 3.73
ACT Mid 50% BBA Scholars - 34-35
SAT Mid 50% BBA Scholars - 1500-1540
Average GPA BBA Scholars - 3.95
41% admitted Test Optional
Thanks! Great info!
Thanks! It’s been hard to find actual Cox numbers separate from SMU as a whole.
It was a very informative session. The admissions folks spoke, then professors (heads of each department), Student panel (these kids were phenomenal!), and alumni. Very impressive. It is my sons’s top pick. His GPA is on the lower side, but has a great SAT. Fingers crossed to us all!!
Any Pre-Law applicants here ?
My son got an email today saying his application was complete but to be sure to send SMU any academic or award updates to his admissions officer. S25 decided to send her his first quarter grades. Hopefully that’s the right decision!
Same here-- my student is having his college counselor send his first quarter grades too.
Any idea on when ED1 decisions will be released?[
Does anyone have any idea when ED decisions are released? Also, heard applications were up significantly this year - is that true?
On their website - Admission decisions released: mid-December
As for how many no idea.
Good luck
I would assume applications went up b/c it was free to apply this year…
Applications may have increased because SMU waived the application fee this year (like Tulane does). However, they always had a free application day every cycle. Joining the ACC has brought a lot of attention to SMU. Our child is a freshman and it’s very exciting to be at SMU right now. Child was admitted EA and into Cox. EA came out last year around 12/19 and ED 1 12/7. Child chose SMU over Wake, Tulane, U Miami, Clemson, & Auburn. Great school!
Super helpful! Thanks!
