Southern Methodist University Early Action / Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

Was wondering the same - TCU seems to be much better at reducing the ridiculous tuition number with merit based grants, reductions, etc…

Can’t speak to merit but SMU was very generous to us with need based which I guess came as a bit of a surprise.

My son got into TCU also, but didn’t receive any aid there either…I guess 3.7 didn’t qualify him for anything, oh well:(

I was told that merit eligibility started at a 3.8 GPA and 1390 SAT. Seems like this year was much more competitive than usual. Plus, I think they may recalculate GPA with core classes (not certain on this). My daughter has a 3.85 and qualified for merit, but not as much as we’d like. She actually got more merit from TCU, but more need-based aid from SMU which was interesting.

It’ll be interesting if and when they release their admissions stats for this year. I do wonder if their applications went up considerably this year with the few waiver. And I also wonder if they’ll keep this waiver going indefinitely - a la Tulane - as a way of boosting application numbers. Has anyone heard anything about any of this?

I’ll second all the posters that say that they’re generous with need-based; they went 15-20k below every other school for me

That’s my guess. With their ever-growing reputation of their business program, the job market in Dallas, great climate and the success of their football team, I do think each future year will be more competitive than their last. Although apparently 2007 was a banner year for births so that’s another reason why applications are up.

Anyone anticipating EA deferral/RD decisions tomorrow?

Has anyone seen the final stats on ED and EA - such as number of applications and acceptance rate? I noticed a lot of schools released this but haven’t seen anything from SMU…

I haven’t but would also be very interested

Does anyone know how you go about requesting a mid-year high school transcript to SMU? I can’t find anything on DS’s SMU portal to invite his high school counselor to send. His school uses Xello but since he already sent a transcript to SMU through Xello to apply, it doesn’t appear there is a way to send another one there…

Has anyone received Meadows merit awards information?

Just thought I would share for future applicants that I received BBA Scholars yesterday, even though I applied EA.

Here’s the email they sent me: "I hope you’re doing well! I’m reaching out with an update in regard to your SMU Cox admission, which you may have already noticed on your admission portal. We had some additional spaces open up in the BBA Scholars Program, and I am thrilled that we are able to offer one of those to you! Congratulations! Your updated admission letter will share more details, but as a BBA Scholar, you’ll have access to an amazing community of our brightest students as well as early access to our incredible Cox Career Management Center resources.

Please let me know if you have any questions at all – I hope you’ll join us on campus this fall! Pony Up!"

Wow. Congratulations. Are you planning to attend SMU?

That’s fair, I’ll delete the post. It was meant to be conversational not nasty. But I get your point.

Truly appreciated. I’ll delete my response as well. Thank you for understanding.

Congrats!
We were advised to appeal not getting BBA scholars, top 3%, straight A’s all through high school, all 5’s on AP tests except for one 4, Varsity sport, etc… and got denied. We needed the extra scholarship to afford going there. Would you mind sharing your stats? I’m curious what they wanted.

I don’t think so. I’m probably going to end up choosing UGA for more of a “fit”.

DS just got accepted off the Cox waitlist. Pony up!
