Southern Oregon University School of Theater

My S and I have uncovered a really great program that isn’t mentioned on this site too often It is the Theater School at Southern Oregon University. It looks REALLY good. It is in Ashland, OR, home of the prestigious Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Students work directly with professionals in their field and are often awarded summer internships at the festival. You have to apply and get accepted to SOU( they have rolling admissions, and a lot of our kids would be at the upper end of their admitted student stats). You then have to apply to the theater school. They have a BA/BS, a BFA, and a MT and Shakespeare Studies minor. You can send in an audition on DVD I believe. I think this might be a hidden gem in the theater world… and Ashland is always voted one of the best cities in America to live. It is beautiful and is a thriving artsy community. It literally took my S 15 minutes to fill out the app, and after I have his transcript sent and tests scores sent, he should here back in 2 week… Check it out!!

The Shakespearean festival is amazing! My bff’s family went every year. Ashland will take some commuting time to get to though so bear that in mind…although google shows a local airport that perhaps you can get a hopper from PDX.
