I’m a hardcore WDW veteran visitor, and the changes they’ve enacted over the past 18 months have caused us to sell our DVC membership (disney timeshare, which was not a regretted splurge since we sold it for more than we bought it for after holding it for 10 years and used it constantly) and we didn’t renew our annual passes for the first time in decades.
It’s just a big, crowded, overly complicated mess at WDW now. No fun, no pixie dust anymore. Such a bummer.
What was the allure of air hockey tables? We have one in our basement that’s been collecting dust since the day we got it. It was a Christmas gift to the kids. They’d played air hockey at friends’ houses, but that same thrill didn’t translate to our drab, boring basement. The ping pong table purchased several years later got slightly more use. At least the ping pong table folds up. The air hockey table sits in the middle of the basement, covered with junk. I wonder if one of the younger families in the neighborhood would be suckers for a hardly-used air hockey table?
We went to Epcot when we were in Tampa. We just rented the car for one day, drove down from Tampa to Orlando, and tried out things that looked interesting and had short lines. Most of our lines were 15 minutes or less and we went right in to eat at the French restaurant. We didn’t bother with fast pass but were willing to go in single tider lines it was shorter. It was just H and me. It was not nearly as expensive as we thought it would be–admission, French dinner and one day car rental.
I use to go to Epcot a few times a year. We ate lunch at Mexico, and dinner French. The first time we took my dad with us, both dad and son were called on the stage for Murder She Wrote. A great memory.
We also loved the movie theme park. We’d head to the most popular ride first.
Sorry, this should be on the splurges we’d do again.
Our Miele DW was supposed to last 20 yr; it only lasted half that. Current DW is a Bosch. With 18" DW, you don’t have many choices, esp. if you want a third rack.
Ours is out foosball table that converts to a small air hockey or small pool table. None of them get used anymore. Maybe it’s time to reclaim that space. I don’t know if I’d call it a regrettable splurge, though, as it did get used a lot when we first got it.
Our basement clutter is a ping pong table. There was not quite enough space around it, so we didn’t use it much. Now half is up and the other half collects stuff. Sometimes DH uses it for workspace to glue up wood. It just barely got down the staircase turn, helped by gravity. Not sure if it will ever come back up.
The swimming pool. Which cost nearly $150,000, and which happily turns itself on and off every day, costing us $$$ in energy and maintenance costs. These expenses will continue forever and ever. With the kids gone, I can think of 150,000 better ways I wish we’d spent that money.
I have one of those tables too - it’s a multi-use table that has all different boards to it. I’ll ask the kids if they want to hang on to it, but I think it’s gathering dust.
@windbehindwings: We got Le Creuset as a wedding present. I finally got rid of the dutch oven that I couldn’t lift, even when it was empty. I still use the 2-quart pot and the small frying pans, though. These things last forever.
