sports facilities at lawrenceville

whoa… 0.o, is there any school out there w/ better athletic facilities than lawrenceville?
The outdoor facilitites include Four baseball and softball fields, sixteen combination football-field hockey-soccer-lacrosse fields, one football game field, a nine-hole golf course, sixteen tennis courts, two outdoor volleyball courts, a quarter mile all weather track, a state of the art ropes course, and a fitness trail.

Al-Rashid Strength and Conditioning Center
Constructed 2003

Completed in the fall of 2003 this state of the art sports performance center features a 3,000 square foot team training center and a 1,700 square foot multi-purpose room. This brings the total school fitness and strength training space to 7,700 square feet.

Arena Area - The main arena (length 313 feet; width - 134 feet; extreme height - 44 feet) has a 12 mm, rubber Mondo surface with three combination basketball-volleyball-tennis courts, a four-lane banked 200 meter track, a long jump pit, and an eight-lane straight-away.
In the Wings - On one side of the arena are the varsity competition basketball court and a six-lane competition swimming pool which is equipped with an underwater window and heated competitor benches. Both the fitness center and the training room are professionally staffed.

would this explain why their ssat average is significantly lower than E/A etc?

choate and hotchkiss, I think deerfield too…the one at exeter is a bit old, have comparable facilities

Huh? Kids who matriculate to Lawrenceville have lower SSAT scores because the school has excellent athletic facilities? You’re going to have to connect a few more dots for me to take me from awesome sports facilities to lower SSAT scores.

I thought St. George’s facilities were impressive – despite the conspicuously absent helipad – especially when you consider the school size. But, in truth, I’ve been to about 15 BS in the past 2 years and Lawrenceville’s facilities are awesome – but typically so for schools with large endowments.

Whoaa… At the risk of opening up that whole which school is better debate… I was amazed to find out that from what RELIABLE (as in not boardingschoolreview.com) information I could find: Of the 10 school alliance the schools that reported Mean… not median SAT scores:

No Surprise # 1 and 2 PEA PA

Big Surprise… Lawrenciville… # 3 with 680 and 680

Taft # 4 638 and 655

Hotchkiss # 5 636 and 653

Hill # 6 625 and 633

Anyone else surprised by that?? Also I was surprised to learn that Choate indicates that their average admitted student has an SSAT percentile in the Mid 80’s and SPS reported their Mean as 88… I thought they were higher! I think I heard Hotchkiss Mean is somewhere in the 80’s as well as Tafts… all makes sense when you look at the Future SAT schores… amazingly comparable between the 3 CT schools with no info available on Loomis other than 68% scored over 600 on verbal and 76 % over 600 on math.

The biggest shocker to me was Lawrenceville… never gets mentioned with PEA and PA yet only like 13 - 20 points behind them.

Ha – we went down to play L’Ville in football a few years ago and some of the parents who’d never seen it started calling it the University of Lawrenceville (especially after they saw Lavino).

Personally, I think it is the best looking secondary school in the nation.
All that’s missing is a helicopter pad.

Lawrenceville’s average SSAT score is 80, and since those correlate highly with SAT scores, that’s hard to believe.

According to those scores you posted, Karate Dad, the prep school I’m applying to has an average SAT score of 669 M, 652 V (2001-2006), making it comparable to the scores of top boarding schools.

Where did you get your data?

i dont think your data are accurate…from the information package the college office gave us, the mean SAT scores from the class of 2005, 2006 was 657 V 706 M

and our self reported SSAT average from last year’s most competitive class was 91% according to our school newspaper

can u show us where you find your data? thanks

and in fact…lawrenceville is a nicelooking school…it has a neat dorm system too

and 1000th post…

and… University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign just offered me a full ride damn it ■■■■ i m having a lucky day… my fourth acceptance XD

Congratulations bearcats! A full ride!

Congratulations Bearcats! That is just super!

bearcats…Dude! You realize…don’t you: Today is the first day of the rest of your senioritis!

For a while there you were the poster child for me not liking Hotchkiss so much…I mean four years at Hotchkiss and, what, you were salivating over a FIFTH year…at Deerfield? This is what I want to hear! Congrats and thanks!

thanks everyone…

re dyer:
i withdrew my app to deerfield and also my spot and half-scholarship for northeastern early action after i heard good news from michigan and USC…but i still cant believe UIUC would offer me a full ride, especially for their
civil/industrial engineering program, which ranks among the first few in the nation … i am still waiting to hear back from several colleges but just these colleges would give me a headache choosing… i think i am just over-excited since UIUC college of engineering is the alma mater of my god-father, also my dad’s best friend, who happened to die of heart attack 2 years ago while I was at school, which had a great impact on me, so there are a lot of emotions attached with the decision

and re senioritis: i am actually trying to get my acts together and fight senioritis… i am seeing the study skills counsellor who’s a really nice lady who often helps the first year students adjust… but ya… i m fighting my battle against the “disease”

I think KarateDad got the numbers from petersons.com since they all match to what he gave.

I also thought it was really weird/interesting that such top schools such as Andover-Mean SAT verbal: 697, mean SAT math: 691

Exeter- Mean SAT verbal: 693, mean SAT math: 698

would have lower scores than my private day school- Mean SAT verbal: 718, mean SAT math: 698

which I was repeatedly told was “no where nearly as competitive or great” compared to boarding school…

Take the full ride ,Then get your masters at cornell.scholarship status along with a mature attitude towards undergrad will put you way ahead of the game.Eastern schools love a canidate who do well in a grounded midwestern environment.Nice.

Lawrenceville certainly does have impressive athletic facilities, and probably has more comprehensive facilities than any other school. In addition to all the previously mentioned facilities, the school is about to begin constructing a new all-weather astro-turf field (mostly for lacrosse I believe). With a campus that exceeds 700 acres, Lawrenceville has plenty of room for such facilities.

And KarateDad, Lawrenceville’s scores have always been near the top of the TSAO schools (or the Group of Eight schools). College matriculuation and selectivity also rival A/E, but Lawrenceville is more rarely mentioned on this board - a victim of it’s geographic location.

I think the connection between excellent sports facilities and SSAT scores is that if an applicant LOVES to play a sport, he/she would spend A LOT of times on it. To balance out the “running time” of roughly 17 productive hours we have in a day, he/she would have less time to study for the SSAT. No study = lower scores. In addition, since Lawrencevill has such impressive athletic facilities, it’ll only make sense for it to foster some of the most athletically gifted/focused youth.

Have you seen Lawrenceville’s music facilities? That’s the attraction for my S. And he doesn’t spend much time on athletics…basically just tennis…but he’s playing one instrument or another for hours on end. I don’t think his SSAT scores suffer. The connection is pretty weak…especially when you compare the numbers going in (SSAT) with the numbers going out (SAT) in which the people who are the chief consumers of the athletic facilities actually show a dramatic improvement on their standardized entrance test performance.
