Spring 2015 Transfer Thread

Hey, KMN. First of all, thank you for your military service!

I think you have a good shot, and something is wrong with the decision process if you don’t get in with a 3.6 and your Air Force experience. My brother transferred to UT from ACC. He had about the same GPA, and he had basically nothing but football on his resume. But that was a couple of years ago.

I’ve submitted my application through ApplyTexas, but it hasn’t shown up on UT’s MyStatus yet. My question is… how can I submit my resume in time, if resume uploads are done through MyStatus?

It doesn’t let me upload anything until my application is in, as far as I can tell…

Really stressful!

@StephenSw On the day I submitted it, it took about maybe 8-9 hours after i got my status up an running? So be patient. And you should be fine if you have you resume, letters of rec, etc. BEFORE October 6th. I spoke to an academic advisor. Good luck!

Well guys, I suppose after today all we have left to do is build more anxiety + balance our respective schools! Good luck everyone! I’ll see this thread boom around novemberish I suppose!

Fuuu mine still says “Complete/On Time” instead of “In Review”

Mine says that as well but on top it says my application is in review. So it takes a bit of time to actually update fully is my geuss.

Thank you, imaswann. I hope so. This is my 2nd time applying and I am hoping the last. Your post made me feel better. Good luck to you!

My status is still complete but “Attention: Your file is in review.” on top. Any comments?

fuuuuuuu, mine still only says Complete/On Time

I have 18 credits currently and will have 30 by the end of the semester. So I won’t be finding out my status until early January…talk about anxiety.

Update: Attended a transfer information session in one of their San Antonio Offices and received a Financial Aid receipt notification. I know this does not confirm acceptance, but I am providing a heads up of potential interest.

Update 2: Went on a campus tour, College of Natural Sciences Information Session, and stopped by the Veteran Student Services office. The campus is huge. If you think about commuting to school there are plenty of bike lanes in the area. Driving within 10 miles of the city is really painfully slow. If you are considering living off campus keep that in mind. The facilities are nice and modern, for the most part, and they have two Student Union buildings that are really impressive.

The campus atmosphere reminds me of how people walk about in New York City which is both a blessing and a curse. I saw way too many students looking down at something and not toward where they were walking. It might be a new age but, with so many people walking next to you, it would help to be aware of your surroundings. Around the school there are plenty of small shops that go with the theme of “Keeping Austin weird” and it brings me back to my Syracuse days. I remember reading an article about how Syracuse barely has any fast food on their campus and I don’t remember there being any at all. UT does have fast food, but give the mom and pop shops a try to gain a wider range of tastes in the area.

Age nor incoming status aren’t major factors in participation of any programs. You can be a transfer and be a part of the Freshman Research Initiative but, of course, it will be modified as you aren’t a Freshman. Also, you can apply for the Honors Program and other programs. Im looking into an integrated Computer Science B.S./M.S. Program and, as long as you meet the requirements, you can apply for it.

Veterans admitted to UT, it would behoove you to stop by their Veteran Student Services Office. They can provide assistance with your Montgomery or Post 9/11 G.I. Bill. This will make the transition run smoothly. The office is involved with the Wounded Warrior Project, for those who are interested in volunteering with veterans. After talking with their staff I am more at ease with waiting to hear back from Admissions.

Students accepted to UT Austin, I would recommend that you visit the campus and recon the area. I tried to get lost but with a map always found where I was and knew where I was going. The campus is huge and so are the buildings. Before you get to class, find your classrooms because I had a rough time with their layout of class numbers. I’m accustomed to classroom numbers labeled as 204 or 310; however UT has it labeled as 2.402. In addition, I was riding the elevator to leave a building and pressed the “G” button thinking it was the ground floor. I ended up a floor below the ground floor and floor 1 being the ground floor. Keep that in mind.

@jhern5‌ what is your application status right now?

@arkarind The status is still in review.

Early notification for exceptional students can start by October 20. So that may be a good gauge as to when you should pay attention to your status or mailbox (electronic or postage). Thankfully for me, I will be out of the military the day when classes begin so I only have to pay for that first day of classes on January 20th. There are other activities prior to classes such as orientation on January 12th so you can expect the offices to be open by that time to take care of payments and registration for classes.

Also, there is no housing obligation at UT. You could live off-campus but for freshman it is encouraged to test out the residence hall life before venturing out. This may be amusing, but I use various tools to determine where I want to live off-campus. I look at the area, how safe it looks, any vegetation, biking distance, and finally a judgmental map of the Austin area. In addition, I use Google Maps street view to look at bike routes to get to school.

Fuuu why is still mine not in review lol

mine neither!

Current college is University of Texas at Tyler (I did not do the CAP program)

Current GPA is a 3.46, expected GPA after fall is a 3.54

College applied for is CNS

1st choice major is Biology, 2nd choice major is undergraduate studies

In my opinion, my essays were pretty good.

I had one recommendation letter. (From a former UT undergraduate and law school graduate)

I was a United States Ambassador for two years.

Thank you for your help!! Do I have a good shot or no?

Does everyone’s application status here say “In Review”? -.-

@arkarind Nope. Mine only says so on top but not in status. applying to CNS math…

Is there a fall 2015 transfer thread?

@arkarind … Mine also says “Your application for admission is in review.”
