@jkim3265 Sorry, I meant to say I will more than likely end up with a 4.0 after this semester.

2015 Fall Transfer Question:

I am submitting an application to Cockrell for the Fall 2015 semester, Chem E or Biomed from CNS(Biochemistry). When my application goes through I expect somewhere between a 3.1-3.3 cumulative. My in-residence technical GPA(calculus, chemistry, bio etc) should be a 3.8 to 4.0, 3.8 at the very least. This happened because my first two semesters were terrible, tons of classes got dropped, C’s D’s and F’s and ended up with a 1.3. It’s taken me a couple semesters of A’s but I’m back to a 3.1

The only reason my tech GPA is so high is because the only class I took that would count is Calc K (I got a D) but since I am currently in C and will take D in the Spring it will knock K out of how Cockrell calculates the tech GPA.

So my cumulative GPA is low, but my tech GPA will be high. Chances of Chem E or Biomed?

Just got into CNS Math, 3.74GPA, 143 credits, BS magna cum laude in biochem and genetics from UMN-Twincities already. PBK

Good luck guys

@Kyotoraz

As long as you have completed your required math classes (Calculus), you should be good to get into CNS.

I got accepted into UGS with a 3.75, I just didn’t have calculus, so I’m taking that here next semester so I can transfer internally to CNS (which isn’t as competitive as the other majors, like engineering or business, as long as you have your pre reqs you’re in).

A ballad to the University of Texas at Austin.
LET US INNNNN
LET US INNNNNNNNN
WE CANT TOLERATE IT ANYMOREEEEE

@SysEvo Jw, when did you look at your acceptance yesterday and, another random question, why’d you decide to go back to college?
Also, what’s PBK stand for?

So… I haven’t gotten a decision today.

I’m way over 30 hours, applying as a sophomore for the spring, have a 3.87 from freshman year, into CNS for Math (taken Physics 1, Biology, Intro to Compsci, Calc 1, 2, 3, Linear Algebra, now taking Statistics and Discrete Math), second choice COLA Economics (already taken Micro, Macro, Intermediate Micro)…

I have a lot riding on this transfer to the spring semester, financially and academically – and I can’t screw up this application this time (application got cancelled last time because I forgot something). What are my chances?

Should those of us, over 30 hours, be hearing back by tomorrow afternoon at the latest?

I sure hope they send their decision by tomorrow.

@jkim3265 I want to do a PhD in quant/sys bio, yet my math/cs skills are wanting. PBK stands for Phi Beta Kappa.

@jkim3265 and I got the email telling me status has changed around 9:30pm central time

If anyone can please independently call admissions asking to contradict what they told me…

I called and I said, I’m a transfer student applying for the spring semester with over 30 hours. When can I expect to hear back?
December 1st.
December 1st at the latest?
… December 1st at the EARLIEST.

When I called they told me the latest for students over 30 hours is mid December and latest for students under 30 hours is early January

I’m not waiting any longer on this school if they wanted me in I would have been accepted already. So I’m taking my education elsewhere where a students’ time isn’t wasted by constantly waiting.

When I called, they said that the reason it is taking so long is because there are so many applications

Tbh the more students pressure them about the timeline, the more they will just move to preferring those with over 30 hours. For Fall applicants, the number of spots they have will depend on the number of freshmen who accepted their admission. For UT they know by May 1 exactly how many freshmen are coming, so they couldn’t really roll out many decisions before that date.

However, the spring is a very different matter. Theres probably a few freshman that apply for the spring but most are in the fall. Spring semester is usually transfer students. So there must be a bunch of applicants this semester. Its just unorganized. There should be set time frames that does not change repeatedly, this is a simple convience to the students. If they aren’t willing to do that then what? We just hash it out, wait around, and then rush to register and fork out $200 more to enroll. And if youre living on campus its a $300 deposit if you get a contract. Some people can’t do things like that. Which is why we need more time than this; late december to get an actual decision with classes starting mid-January. Its just crazy.

I have a 3.3 GPA at an out-of-state private university, but I am a Texas resident. No letters of rec and am applying for COLA. I do have well over 30 credit hours Do I even have an outside shot or should I just move on with my life?

Judging by last years thread, 3.6 and up was just about a lock. Below that and you’re going to need your calc classes knocked out already. I think the lowest GPA that got in amongst people in that thread was a 3.3.

Ugh. I only have a 3.46.

Is anybody else still under review?
