Spring 2015 Transfer Thread

@Kyotoraz‌ yes, thank you. So I’m trying for Physics or Astronomy, since I saw a lot rejection from Biology and Chemistry. Thanks a lot for noticed me that fact.

It is not possible for our my status to change until January 2nd at this point, because the admissions people are on break right?

Or is it still possible?

Btw if anyone knows anyone subletting or looking for a sublease, let me know. I want a 1 bedroom apartment w/ no roommates

That gives me hope, @jmbacqua. I’ve got the same GPA as you along with 5 years military service and two strong essays and I applied to two majors within COLA.

@Yoohooos‌ No problem! We need to make this 2015 fall/summer forum soon

@Kyotoraz‌ I agree! Someone needs to set it up!

@Kyotoraz‌ @cdctransfer‌ after Jan 2nd should be fine

@jmbacqua Can you tell us a little bit more? What major within CNS did you apply for? What math and science courses have you already taken? And lastly, what grades did you get in those math and science courses?

CONGRATS on your acceptance!

I’m applying for Fall 2015, but have a general question: if I’m going for an engineering major do you recommend I write the 3rd, optional essay? Thanks.

OK so basically after talking to the UGS dean UT is making a rule to where students in UT have higher preferences to get their majors before outside students do. So basically it will get harder for transfer students to get in so it’s all or nothing when you apply. It’s because they say its unfair that outside students are getting their majors before students in UT because many from easier schools (community college) and have higher GPA’S than students in UT since the classes are crazy hard. So that’s why they aren’t letting you guys apply for UGS anymore. This was directed because of internal transfer for business and engineering was getting hard. So the dean’s told us UGS students that it will be extremely hard for outside transfer to get into these majors specifically. So guys make your applications as strong as possible so you can come here. This is the best place in the world

@saammmaay, Thank you! I didn’t apply to CNS at all though and for math and sciences, all I had was some upper level nautical sciences the Navy awards up for training, which are essentially p/f credits with no grade.

@jmbacqua oh I’m sorry. I was under the impression that you applied to CNS as a first major choice because you said you got into your second major choice undeclared COLA. My mistake. CONGRATS THOUGH!

Hello! I’m also Fall 2015 transfer, a CAP student who is tied between choosing Nursing or CNS. If anyone has a chance, could they help me with some quick questions?

I am interested in a BSN and a BSA in Biochemistry, though I may put Human development because I don’t have physics and all of chemistry completed.

Stats:
+4.0 Fall semester (President’s list)
+Member of two pre-health organizations (going to join two more next semester)
+100 plus hours of volunteer experience from HS and college
+Submitting an art portfolio to appear more well rounded
+Have all classes required for Nursing (I’ve been following the UT degree program)
+M316 (for entrance to Nursing, CNS)
+Full Biology sequence completed (for entrance to CNS)
+Have 1st part of introductory Chemistry (CH301)

-No chemistry 2 + lab
-No calc 1

For those who may know,

Do I have a solid chance @ getting into CNS without calculus? Will my GPA make up for this?

Do I have a solid chance @ getting into Nursing? I know someone in the Fall 2014 thread got in, but an officer in my Nursing club told me that in a recent term they accepted only one transfer student total.

W/automatic admissions to COLA through my cap GPA, will I be able to transfer to CNS for the BSA in biochemistry my sophomore year?

Thank you!!

You need calculus for natural science. You won’t get in without it

Number 3 is possible and with your gpa you most likely will get into nursing. The only math you need for nursing is statistics @petitemish‌

@petitemish I agree with 135pipe. You definitely need calculus for CNS. Not just calculus 1 but calc 1&2. I remembered talking to a lady within CNS and she said that you really need to have Calculus 1&2 to even be considered competitive nowadays cuz a lot of kids applying to CNS already have Calc 1&2 and without it you really just won’t have an upper hand. I don’t know too much about nursing.

does anyone know if having a complete sequence of a science is a make or break?

i have my biology sequence completed but i only completed chem 1 and physics 1. so those two are just kinda hanging.

For those who got in, how quickly did your notification about meningitis change? My parents have been super busy, and we need to get our shot record. My mom has a day off tomorrow and she will fax it, usually how quickly does it take to process?

Isnt it impossible to get a decision until the break ends for the admissions officers at this point? So that means I can’t get a decision until january 2nd at least?

@Kooplar246 I e-mailed my shot record to UHS and my status was changed in two days or so. You need to put your UT EID on any admission records. But, UT offices are closed until Jan 2 thought it might be different for UHS.

Also, you can look up your Registration Information Sheet on the Registrar’s site. It will let you know your non-financial bars, such as advising visit, and high school transcripts, and also let you know your TSI status. It also lets you know your online registration times after orientation.

Also, there is a two hour drugs and alcohol course that we have to complete online by Jan 21. I got the info and the link in an e-mail from UHS last week.

I also took a look at the course schedules, and it is going to be hard to find classes this semester because so many are full or have restricted enrollment. I’m in this in-between status where I have most of my core classes but I don’t qualify as upper-level, so that makes course selection even harder. But I found a few courses that I hope will still be open after orientation.

Is anyone willing to look over my statement of purpose?

Has a facebook group been made yet for the spring-transfer-admits?

Also, I’m reading that there are no housing accommodations for spring orientation… Crap. What are you guys doing for housing the week of the 12th?
