Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

@ReverseCremation I was getting you and someone else mixed up lol I thought you said you applied to Cola first choice, the RTF, 2nd choice… with no interest in either. I was like whaaaat? I was just saying applying to RTF (very competetive) with no intention of persuing it, (if accepted) takes someones chance away who ACTUALLY wants to go to RTF. Sorry for the mix up. So, anyway… lol why did you apply for Biomed if that’s not what you want?

@britni12 Oh, yeah, I guess I’m with you on that one. I just don’t know which I want to do. At this point, I’m thinking about graduate school. I want to get a PhD. in organic chemistry. Biomedical would probably allow me to get a good paying job after I get my bachelor’s, which would be really nice. It also wouldn’t keep me from applying to a PhD. program for organic. At the same time, my passion is really chemistry and biochem would probably make me a more competitive candidate for a graduate program in organic.

It’s pretty annoying that I can’t go to school here because they gave me like 50 cents in financial aid. I feel more like I have aids more than I feel financially aided.

yeah they are exceptionally stingy with financial aid. i don’t qualify for anything and i’m

  1. over 23
  2. completely independent from parents
  3. work full time
  4. make less than 30k a year

which is total crap, imo.

Hey everyone I know y’all are talking about some different things but I wanted to bring up my question again. I asked if UT would rescind my offer if they saw my current grades, which are lower than what I applied with. The person who responded to me about how UT won’t rescind an offer unless your grades are horrible (failing everything), that person is correct. I called admissions today and the counselor said the exact same thing. Just wanted to add more info for anyone else that might be worried about their grades this semester.

@IdkIdkHelp If you need money for college, you should look in to the Air National Guard. Your dream school is in New York. New York Air National Guard members don’t have to pay tuition to attend NY state schools and members of a state’s Guard are treated as in-state residents for tuition purposes. Guard duty is only 1 weekend a month, 2 weeks a year.

This is what I do. I actually get paid $1,900 a month to attend school thanks to my GI Bill and my drill pay. Provided I get admission to UT, I won’t have to pay a dime to attend.

@BlueMoonArmy can i get in-state tuition if i join the guard in texas? can i join the guard in texas?

@IdkIdkHelp Yes, you can and yes, you can join. You’ll have to go through some initial training, so don’t expect to start the semester in the Fall of 2016. You’ll have to ask if they can hold your admission so you can attend the initial training.

is it shitty @BlueMoonArmy

thanks! @Chilldude22

Has anyone heard from Mcketta? … :-S

Hi,

My name is Matt. I have submitted a transfer application for Fall 2016 to UT Austin.
I currently study journalism at Ithaca College, a liberal arts school located in upstate NY.
That being said, I am also a Freshman, who will have 31 credits by the end of this year.
My GPA 1st semester:3.4. I decided to apply to BU (Boston University) and UT Austin. Surprisingly, I got into Boston U. I really would like to attend UT Austin though. I lived all my life in Houston, TX-I am a Texas Resident. I have never applied to UT before this year. I currently hold a job as a French TA (Teacher Assistant) at IC (Ithaca College) and I am part of 4 clubs. My GPA this 2nd semester though will be lower as I have outside chances to meet my 1st semester gpa (3.4) I will probably end up with a 3.3-3.32 GPA.
I applied to UT Austin Liberal Arts and would like to study german there (1st choie major). I have strong essays relating to my investment into the german language (twice i went to austria and germany for summer programs, took 4 years of the language in high school and had a B+ in German this first semester, and willl probably have a B+ again this semester) and as to why “I would like to come back home”.
As a texan, I really miss the lifestyle back at home compared to here. My question is: as an external transfer what are my chances of being accepted? Does UT accept 3.3-3.4 external applicants? Some people say that being a texas resident in my case helps…Thanks in advance!

Man, I can’t believe we haven’t had any acceptances in such a long time on here. Ugh. I wonder of I am going to be compared to the <30 folks when they send in grades

@IdkIdkHelp Your word got filtered. I don’t know what you were saying. You’ll have to re-word it to something that doesn’t trigger the filter.

Can someone please respond to my post? Would be greatly appreciated, thanks

@mattbernest none of us know if you’ll get in or not. You meet the minimum 3.0 requirement for the university, but beyond that we have no idea. However they will wait until after this semester since you had less than 30 hours at time of application, so you shouldn’t expect a decision until mid-June.

This may have already been addressed but does anybody actually know what the odds are of getting into COLA as a second choice? I know they prefer to take the people who put COLA as their first choice but does this mean theres no hope?

@Clintonwk Yea they told me that I would get an answer in June since I haven’t met the 30 hours.
I guess I need to be more specific about my post: Application wise (GPA, essays, etc.) do I have a chance?

It’s a six letter word that rhymes with pity. @BlueMoonArmy

@IdkIdkHelp I’m not going to say that boot camp is fun, but once you’re done, things are pretty chill. It’s not hard. Just do what you’re told and don’t take food from the dining hall.

Ask yourself what’s more kitty, crippling student loan debt, or 8 weeks of yelling. It’s up to you to decide how bad you want it.
