Spring/Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

I’ve concluded from the acceptances above, it seems as if LORs carry weight in decisions. Most of the more competetive school acceptees have LORs. Good to know if I don’t get in this time!

Hi guys, as everyone I am waiting not so patiently for an answer. So I am applying for RTF, I have a 3.77 gpa, 30+ hours, I am in state. I summited one (very personal) LOR, and 2 essays that I took to the writing center at my college. I am also foreign born (have been 2 years in the US) and hispanic. What do you think?

Also, a girl I know received a letter inviting her to apply for a scholarship, congratulating her “again” for being accepted. She mention that she did not receive an acceptance letter yet. So has anyone received an official acceptance yet, or do you know that you were accepted because of an email of this sort?

Thanks!

@ashwitch I’ve heard RTF is very competetive, not sure I can really tell you my opinion, as I have no clue what they’re looking for
Regarding your friend, that’s odd because the scholarship deadline was a long time ago, that I’m aware of. Is she able to actually fill out a document? If so, I’m curious what scholarship it is.

@DaveCloud FWIW, and I would still ask an advisor, my son was a CAP transfer to ME. He says he took Diff EQ, and not Linear Algebra. His words “the other was my math elective and it didn’t have to be that.” Hope that helps.

Still waiting… sigh…

HOUSING: btw, if you know any girls looking-- 1BR/1BA w/ private balcony within a 4BR/4Ba at the Bloc on Rio. Walking distance to campus. 3 current roommates are all juniors. 2 from Austin. $839/mo + utilities (about $40). Parking $99/mo. Available for move-in August 15. Message me if interested in more info.

This is what the message says exactly:
“Cogratulations again on your admission to the University of Texas at Austin. We’d like to let you know about an opportunity to applyfor the prestigious Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarship…”

She applied for psychology.

@britni12

Im beginning to think that those of us are still waiting wont get our decisions until after the people will <30 hours send in their grades

Do transfers get an acceptance letter, the gone to texas banner, a ut coin, etc? Also, what class am I part of? For example, would I be UT 18?

@ashwitch My girlfriend is a Terry Scholar. That’s an extremely prestigious scholarship that you have to be invited to apply to. It’s a full ride to UT, plus some other expenses, and the application process involves multiple essays and an interview. So, if she received that letter from the Terry Foundation, I find it hard to imagine it was an accident. I think the scholarship selection process happens concurrently with the admissions process, and I think it’s a possibility that their timing wouldn’t coincide. In other words, I imagine it would be possible to get a letter like that before being accepted, but UT is the one that picked her to apply for the scholarship.

Also, from the Texas scholarships website:
“If you are selected by The University of Texas at Austin as a potential Terry candidate, you will be contacted by the UT Austin Office of Financial Aid to submit additional information, such as recommendation letters. Terry Scholarship Candidates are recommended to the Foundation by the school. Candidates must attend a personal interview with the Terry Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee. The Terry Foundation selects the scholarship recipients from among the candidates who are recommended for interview.”

@ashwitch someone I know was accepted to psychology about two weeks ago and got offered the Terry scholarship. That’s weird that your friend hasn’t been officially accepted yet.

@liberalguy97 Yes, the transfer students get an acceptance letter. But it’s just a letter nothing like a complete package for freshman year.

And I also received emails and a call regarding Terry scholarship.

@adr1697 sorry for the delayed response! I took:
1st Semester: Intro to Psych, Us History I, History and Appreciation of Dance, Biology Fundamentals (doesn’t count for anything but a solid refresher course if you’ve been out of high school for a while, or just didn’t pay attention while you were in)
2nd Semester: Russian I, College Algebra, Human Sexuality, US Government
3rd Semester: TX State Government, Trig (I was working full time during this semester)
Current Semester: Cell/Molecular Biology Lecture w/ lab, Chemistry I w/ lab, Precalculus

I transferred in AP credit for English I and a Sociology class I took while I was in the military as well.

I’ve worked in some capacity the whole time and maintained my A’s, and I’m by no means a genius, so it’s totally doable! I originally wanted to get a BA in Psychology, but then I realized I actually like math and science, so you can probably omit the extraneous math and science that I took from your own schedule.

I have about 52 credits total I’m transferring in. I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any more questions.

@liberalguy97 i honestly kind of hope so. kind of looking forward to the banner, tbh, even as a 24 yr old :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyone is intl transfer applicant? They say we will get our decision in early may, but its almost over i hvnt hear back fromm them…

@BladeX I am an international and I called them yesterday. They told me that they are still reviewing applications. Could I ask what is your major?

ChemE @AndywantUTAustin

Hey does anyone know anything about the International Relations and Global Studies major, like is it very competitive, maybe an average GPA? I cant find anything like that for it, i know its in COLA, but that doesnt really help. Thanks for any help i appreciate it!

@blue1996 I had originally wanted to pick the International Relations and Global Studies major (it fits very well with my resume) but heard it was one of the more competitive majors within COLA. I have a friend who’s majoring in it (and Plan II.) Of course, who knows. It seems like every “expert” has a different opinion.

@blue1996 my advisor told me it’s one of the most competitive. also, it has to be first choice on your application. however i have a friend that got in this spring with a 3.65 GPA and another with a somewhat lower GPA.

i also wanted to pick that major but my heart lies in PR which is somewhat similar anyways.
