Spring or Fall Transfer? Financial aid and housing considerations

With regards to financial aid, what considerations must be made for a spring transfer instead of a fall transfer? Would it be better to apply for a fall transfer instead?

Financial aid aside, I am leaning towards a Spring transfer for housing reasons. Transfers are guaranteed housing so I will get housing even with a Spring transfer. The benefit of this is that once I am a full time student in the Spring, when I apply for the next academic years housing, I can apply for an apartment or at least have better options as a current student. So even if I were to get stuck with a bad roommate, it would only be for a semester. After that, I would apply for a dorm single or an apartment single.

On the other hand, with a fall transfer, I might end up stuck with a bad roommate for a full year. However, since I have more than 64 credits, I can apply for apartments but as a transfer applicant, I expect low priority during applications.

I transferred in the spring (very, very last minute) and was given my allotted federal and NYTAP aid - I’d go for the spring transfer. There are spots open in the nicest dorm (Greiner) for spring as well!
