Any thoughts on whether it is really possible to improve a kid’s SSAT scores? Some are pretty low and some are pretty high. Should we try the ISEE? Thanks!

Take the practice tests for both (you can get them at the library) and see what you like better. I took both, but did much better on the ISEE 5-10% higher on every section, so I’d suggest considering both.

It’s certainly possible to improve scores from an “unstudied” level. Performance on the Verbal and Reading Comprehension sections benefits from improvements in vocabulary. Ideally, your child will make flash cards and study 300-500 words between now and the autumn test.

The math section is basically Algebra I and a bit of Geometry. If your child hasn’t had Geometry, I’d suggest focusing on it during preparation.
