St. Olaf ED/RD Class of 2024 Thread!

@Driverof3 I got that email too. I am also nervous that I am not Buntrock/Presidential because I got that email and I have pretty good stats and essays. I don’t think anyone has received a decision yet for RD though

Maybe do you want to try calling and asking when Buntrock decisions are out? @Driverof3

No, we’ll just wait and see how it all unfolds. My D is feeling less sure about braving the cold on campus so it’s not as high on her list as other schools.

@earlyapps I think it’s most likely that everyone who completed the survey got that email. It was probably automatically sent and unrelated to any scholarship selection. Hang in there!

Anyone else just get the “now that your application is complete…” email? Very worried all of this means I am not getting a Buntrock or Presidential scholarship. Thoughts?

Anyone heard from RD or Buntrock yet? My kid really wants to be an Ole
but needs merit aid. Trying to figure out if it’s time for him to move in. It’s much later than this usually comes out.

My son was offered Buntrock scholarship on 2/5. He applied RD. To continue the process he has to go to St.O for a visit and interview either the end of Feb or beginning of March. It’s my understanding based on last year’s posts that only the Buntrock Scholars are required to do a campus visit so that is why they move up the notification. I am thinking that there are many more scholarship types yet to be awarded on the RD timeline. Good luck to all, it is so hard to wait I know… my son is still waiting for more decisions due by April 1.

Whatttt some people already heard about buntrock?

@NOVA2024 have you heard anything?

@wonderingmama what were his stats?

I was notified this afternoon that I was accepted. Anyone else?

My son was accepted RD today! Lots of excitement in the house. OOS, 4.0 unweighted GPA, 1st in his class, 1390 SAT score, great ECs and recs.

@quarkpie congrats! any merit scholarship with those stats?

I was notified a couple days ago that I’m a “finalist” for Buntrock. Does anyone know if that means the award just conditional on my going to the Scholar Day, or if they only select some finalists to receive it after the interview?

@seaspree what were your stats? and I am pretty sure if you go to the Scholar day you automatically get the scholarship

My D was very surprised and excited to be notified last night of her acceptance with a Presidential Scholarship. A few hours later she was admitted to her ED2 school so she notified St. Olaf today that she won’t be attending. It would have been a great option if her ED school hadn’t accepted her. Congratulations to those who were accepted and best of luck with the rest of your senior year.

@EarlyApps thanks for the reply! i’m out of state, 3.8 GPA UW (my school doesn’t have APs; also, I don’t think my school reports GPA to schools, just transcripts), 35 ACT. I think my recs and ECs were good? I’m not sure how to evaluate that for myself.

Nope. I feel bad for my kid. He goes to a unique, hardcore nationally known STEM magnet where only 10-15% of kids who apply to the freshmen class get in on pure merit And where St. Olaf is getting traction and good word of mouth because of their strength in sciences (my kid wants natural science to PhD) and fine arts (most kids who go are music/drama ECs) The had 4 kids apply and all 4 attended in the last 3 years.

He fell in love and really, really wants St. Olaf. And I want it for him. It’s exactly the community environment with music where he’d thrive. If the Buntrock was on the table 90% chance he’d be an Ole (10% Oberlin comes through with huge merit and he decides to go there).

But realistically, without Buntrock, we can’t make the finances work without loans. And since other good option are there without loans (defiantly Pitt Honors with merit, Wooster with huge Merit, CWRU with big merit, and almost certainly WM RD and hopefully a couple other similar SLACs) we can’t let him take out UG loans.

It’s frustrating, because he thought and we thought he had found his perfect fit. He visited, interviewed, and they told us at the time he should qualify for top merit aid. But I guess it is what it is. It’s passed the point he’d get a Buntrock. And it sound like Presidentials have rolled out too. And we would be full pay.

So, we are encouraging him to move on. Seems like St. Olaf doesn’t want him as much as he wants them. So, it’s time for him to become less insistent about going there and consider his other options. He has good ones.

Good luck to all and Congrats. Unfollowing this thread and mentally moving on.

@NOVA2024 I am super sorry. I know that some presidential ones are released later when all RD decisions are out, and the next scholarship down at $21k which a ton of people also receive. Sounds like you have many good other options though.

Hey! International kid here for St. Olaf! Rd. gpa- not sure my school doesn’t calculate it but pretty average.pretty good ECAs, good recoms, good essay. Looking forward to the decision. I emailed my admissions counsellor and decisions go out this week.
