Thanks Winterset. Glad to see you are "un"flooded and back. Hope all is dry and better. We are being patient, and planning on visiting where accepted over the next 2 weeks though.

Do third formers get to do much theater? Aside from the 3rd form play which is now open to 4th formers, do lowerclassmen get much theater? I know they can’t do mainstage plays because they have to do sports, right? Are there student directed shows for them to be in? Is there enough theater for lowerclassmen? Thank you!

Any accepted III formers on?

wickedcrazy:
The 3rd form played has turned into an all school play…The reason there was a play specifically for third formers is because 3rd formers can’t receive credit for being in a play. We need to do all three terms of sports as third formers. Though contrary to popular belief, there are many acting chances for third formers. There is an intro to theater class many students take, and they quite enjoy it. There is a student lead theater group… They just recently put on a show consisting of monologues. Sometimes if there are movie or play auditions in Concord, a theater teacher who thinks a student is capable will ask if they want to audition. I believe there is a very good amount of theater opportunities for third formers!

I am an accepted third former! And I’m going! How about you?

Oooh, cool chicky! You can do shows in Concord? Is it very uncommon? That’s great to hear that third formers get a lot of acting in. Do you know how often the student theater group puts up productions? When does the third form play/all school play take place? What about the other terms, are there shows you can be in aside from that and student ones? Thank you so much!

Also one thing i left out…the fiske cup is an excellent opportunity for third form actors. One of my very best friends was the lead role in her dorm’s fiske cup play. She then went on to receive the best actress award in the entire fiske cup.
The auditions happened more in the beginning of the year.
I would imagine the student acting group will begin to put on more and more shows as they acquire more members and support.
The play the third formers can be in will be in the spring, i emailed the director because i’m in it and my parents wanted to know…but i havnt received an email back…considering it’s spring break thats understandable, but i will keep you updated!
the acting group performed during winter terms, and i would imagine there are more opportunities in the fall term
:)

The theater course offerings at SPS is amazing for such a small school. I’m definitely applying to SPS next year, partly because of its drama department. Does anyone know how SPS’s theater program is compared to, say, Choate’s?

Ahh, that sounds great, chicky! Is the student theater club just getting started this year? What kind of shows do they do? Do you know anyone who has done something in Concord?

Also, what are clubs like? Is there enough time for them? Is it hard to start one? Haha sorry for all the questions, I’m just so excited! Do you love it?

I think the student led theater group is starting to come out more. Recently they did a show with student’s performing monologues. My best friend’s room mate did audition for a movie in Concord, I don’t think she got it though…
There is definitely time for clubs, they usually meet at night or on sundays. There are many different clubs, from habitat for humanity to the fine tea and exotic chocolate club. it is difficult for lower formers to start clubs, I haven’t heard of a third former starting one this year.
I think the process is pretty simple though…you just need to get a teacher to advise the club and enough people to join.

haha it’s fine! i’m here to help, and yes, i LOVE st pauls

Is seated meal dressy? Do you get to wear nice dresses at any of the dances? Haha I’m really excited to buy some new ones… what kind of things do people wear to seated meals and dances?

how often are dances… and are the guys cute?

Seated meal is formal…but not too too dressy. You by no means need a ball gown hahaha…
of course we get to wear nice dresses to dances! There’s a dance most saturday nights, but those are informal. Once a term, there is a nice, dressy dance (Fall Ball or ‘Cocktails’, Winter Formal, and Spring Fling) In the winter there is also Mish, which is given a theme and people dress accordingly…For example, this year the theme was super heroes. In the fall, the first night of school is Nash Bash, where people just dress in CRAZY outfits. Be sure to bring some crazy fun clothes for this dance, i’m talking spandex, tutus, sequined items, neon, anything FUN!
To seated meals, girls usually wear nice dresses or skirts with a blouse…just make sure it looks nice. alot of girls wear heels, but a lot wear flats too…
Dances on the weekend are very informal, people usually just go in jeans, or the group/house/team hosting it sometimes gives it a theme (sports, camo, glow-in-the-dark)
There are some cute guys, a lot have potential to be cuter when they get older… hahaha i’m excited for the newbies thoughhh :)

Haha that you sooo much for these answers! What kind of things do people wear every day, like to class? Skirts, corduroys, etc? Like how formal is every day wear? Also, you can wear jeans and stuff on weekends, right? How much casual stuff do you have?

Oh and are Saturday classes every week? Thanks again!

What do people do during the weekday after classes?

Winterset,

do they waitlist all these ppl just to keep their yield high?

Do they really expect movement?

are the wait lists ranked? i know they say it isnt… but i am seriously doubting that.

can i do anything now to help my chances of getting in?

i applied to sps, hotchkiss, and groton… im on the waitlist for all of them.

wud it help if i sent any more recent info in? like results from a national test or a report card or even a letter pleading to get in?

please helpp.

Geez, I’m getting nervous! Does anyone know yet when the people on the wait list will find out? My re-visit days are approaching, and I haven’t heard from SPS yet. (I know they are vacation, when do they get back?) Are there any juniors from 2 years ago that were taken off the list out there? I going to crack! The anticipation is killing me!

Hill, I would be very surprised if anyone hears anything about waitlists from any schools until after April 10th.

T.t please let it work out!

Haha no problemmm! people usually wear skirts, casual dresses, cordurouys, colored jeans, khakis, so on and so forth…Every day wear isnt formal, its just…what they used to say ‘neat clean and in good repair’ we can’t wear anything ripped, jeans, or t-shirts (though girls are allowed to wear fitted tees) and boys have to wear a collar. You can wear jeans and sweats and whatever you want after school hours or on weekend.
Considering I went to public school last year, where I didn’t have a dress code, I have a good amount of casual clothes, most people have the same amount as me though…i would say a few pairs of jeans…maybe a pair of sweatpants cause you will mostly buy a pair at the school store when you get there with ‘st pauls’ down the leg, hahah
Yes, sighs saturday classes are every week. the only time they were canceled was when we had a HUGE storm a few weeks ago, where most of the buildings had power out (keep in mind we spent the entire day before without power, and we were forced to go to class )
After classes on weekdays, the vast majority of the school population has sports, if you are on a JV sports team, you will have one day off a week, most likely thursday…on wednesdays(half days) where not everyone has games, some people go into town to do some shopping in either downtown concord or the mall-target-shaws area. Some also go out to eat lunch. A favorite spot is in-a-pinch bakery and cafe, home to the most AMAZING cream cheese brownies in the world. seriously. they are HEAVENLY. Other students just stay on campus to watch their fellow student’s games, or to catch up on work. generally wednesdays are more relaxed, where more people stay on campus , and saturdays are when everyones out and about.
P.S. @HopefulatHill, students return to school a week from today
i cant wait!

Alright thank you.
