St. Paul's School Concord NH

Sorry. I’m not trying to upset anyone, just trying let people know what happened. We all feel for you and I hope to see you at SPS in the fall.

I got accepted to st. pauls and i am a freshman right now in texas. I have a few questions

  1. are there ant sothern kids and will my accent and saying yall be funny
  2. what are the rooms like and how can you decorate them
3)who else is going in as a sophomore i know there are only 17 girls but i was just wondering
  3. how bad is the hazing ( my school in texas is really big on hazing)
  4. is it very clicky and b*tchy

Hi Texas Chica, I PM-ed you about your questions

just wanting to know in anyones opipion what is the best dorm? What i mean is which is the nicestest, has the better bathrooms, biggest rooms, better furniture, and everything like that?

Kehaya is probably the best dorm in terms of rooms for girls… Assuming ur a girl Texas Chicago! ;)

yah and what about piercings? i had my cartilage pierced over x-mas break and will they make me take it out or is it okay to have?

Hahaha no, they won’t make you take that out. The administration isn’t THAT draconian…not yet, at least. Lots of girls have cartilage piercings, and several students have nose piercings too, actually. They’re not really weird about dress code anymore, for girls it’s basically just no blue jeans and no sweatpants (you can get away with yoga pants though…luckily.)

Oh and for your other questions:

There are quite a few southern kids, and of them many say y’all and nobody really makes fun of them. A lot of people think it’s kind of charming, actually.

Rooms are pretty good, no cinder block walls and the carpeting, while on the ugly side, is better than tile. All the furniture’s made of wood, and you get a bed, a bookshelf, a dresser, a desk, and a chair. You can decorate pretty much how you want, except no textiles hanging on the walls, not more than one extra piece of furniture (a lot of people choose to have a couch), and no ridiculous furniture setups. Basically you do what you want as long as it’s within fire code. Get a lot of posters and maybe some lamps.

When the directory comes out (not til August though) you can look at your classmates. Before that, I’m not sure how to find that out. I think someone usually starts a facebook group?

Pretty much nonexistent. Sixth and third formers get along pretty well, and I’ve found that in girls dorms especially everybody basically gets treated the same regardless of form. Don’t worry about that at all.

Eh, not really. Well, I mean, no more than at the average school. There will always be some groups that are like that, but at St. Paul’s people are generally pretty friendly and the groups are pretty fluid.

I remember seeing a chapel announcement for a Southern Club, not sure how active it actually is.

what are prefects?

prefects are usually 6th formers with a bit more responsibility than regular 6th formers. They direct dorm meetings, help you with problems you come across, etc.

Hey, does anyone know which cellular phone carrier works best at St. Paul’s. ? AT andT, verizon, etc?? Thanks!

I am unreachable. Storm knocked out everything. No power, water, phone, internet. Only my blackberry. Please do not PM me, I cannot empty the inbox. Any way little keys and gloves are a real pain! Leaving town tomorrow. Hopefully I will be back online on thursday. Looks like others are helping with Q’s.

lucky-I know that AT&T does not work on campus. My d has AT&T and her phone never works on campus, in fact, at school her cell is permanently off. We were told Verizon is the best carrier for St. Paul’s. A new cellphone tower is going up in the area and cellphone usage should improve in the future.

My son’s Verizon phone works great.

Verizon works the best, however each student has their own dorm phone as well

how long are the breaks between classes? Do people have enough time to grab a snack or go to their rooms?

We get 5 minutes between each class, unless you have a free block or something (you usually end up getting out a few minutes early or a minute or two late). If you’re hungry there are bagels w/ cream cheese and sometimes peanut butter and apples if you don’t have too much time to get to class. But a lot of people usually go to the school store or Tuck really quickly to buy something if they are really that hungry. It just depends on how fast you can make it or if your teacher is not too strict on starting class exactly on time. You don’t have time to run to your room in those 5 minutes unless you live in Con (Conover 20) or you run like a speed demon.

Hey I was wondering when we can be expecting a waitlist call? I need to have have a deposit in on the 10th and after that I may not be ale to change schools. Any idea?

That is the age old question, always asked at this time. The schools with the wait-list won’t know whats clearing until the deposits don’t come in and they get the word on the 10th from students going to other schools.

For those waiting. Be patient, you should not have to inform any other school until April 10th. I know patience is tough, but it is what you need to have. There are only two things you can do:

  1. Tell SPS of your continued interest
  2. “Refresh” your SPS file with any “news” (they will accept material).

Good luck all.
