BUMP. revisits start todayyy
anyone here coming?

On revisit days are the students just having a regular day? Because I know some schools that got there students to go into town on revisits. By the way I am going on the 8th.

Just back from the first of the three revisits. Yes, students have regular classes. Accepted students are assigned a third form student host and attend three hours of classes with their host. The weather started off cold and rainy, but finished up sunny and wonderful. The Student Admissions Officers join for most of the events, but even they have their own classes to attend. Was that what you were asking, or were you wondering if you were brought into town?

Just got back from SPS revisit! It was great!

The first day was rainy and cold. We got there at like 4:30, and met up with our student hosts before going to dinner with them at 5. My parents had dinner in a different dining hall. Then there was an activity fair thing, and then an athletic fair thing. The choir performed, and they were FANTASTIC! I was amazed. Like, seriously, the choir is incredible. Then we went to a student variety show, which wasn’t amazing, but it was pretty good. It was fun, though, to see the students joking around with the lights and on stage. And their black box theater, that they use for smaller things, was really big. Then we went and had cookies in the Rectory like the students do on Saturday nights, and then we asked questions to a student panel. Then we went back to the hotel.

The next day, you come for (I think) breakfast, but I’m not sure since we got there late. You go to chapel and then to class with your host, then you leave them and go to lunch with your parents. While I was at class my parents had panels and such, I think. After lunch, the parents went to class if they wanted, and the kids could do whatever they wanted. There were optional tours going on. I really wanted to see a certain class that I hadn’t in the morning, so I asked an admissions officer if there was one going on and she brought me to the class. Everyone was so helpful. Also, if your student host isn’t taking a class that you really want to see, you can ask if one of their friends is taking it, and they can give you to their friend for that class. Anyway, that was what happened! It was really fun but exhausting.

Winterset, what I meant in my post was if the day at SPS would be a regular day for the students. Some schools get all of their students to leave campus, such as McCallie, for the revisits. Which is fine but I would rather see what a regular day is for a student. At the SPS revisits it sounds like it is just another normal day, which is good for us new students. Can’t wait until the 8th!

Hey I haven’t been on cc in a very long time, but seeing as I got into SPS I figured now would be a good time to say something. I will be attending next year as a repeat fifth former. I will be receiving FA (not to brag but rather provide a data point) and was recruited for the lacrosse team. I beleive my acceptance hinges on the fact that coach Colbert wants me for lacrosse, seeing as my grades aren’t exactly spectacular(I have around an 89 average while taking a few challenging courses), my test scores are also pretty lackluster (2030 on the SAT). I know I’m somewhat of an odd case here, but is anyone else here going to be a new fifth former(I’m not really expecting a response seeing as there were only nine of us accepted)?

I can’t find the edit button so forgive me for he double post, but it seems as though I have forgot to mention that I only applied to SPS. Oh and that I am excited beyond belief. SPS seems like one of the finest schools on earth with one of the closest communities anywhere.

Good call! Good choice and Congratulations! Admissions this year are truly insane. Hope there is another new 5th former on CC, but if not you can contact others when the SPS 'faceboo’k is printed (before if I can and you remind me). Historically, some new student sets up a Facebook page (capital F) and people get together there. But watch out, if tradition holds, a few upperformers will find it and my ‘pull your chains’.

Starting is the 5th form will be a challenge for you. Not because you will not be welcomed and included, but because colleges are looming AND you are trying to find your way around a new school simultaneously. That is a challenge, but they would not have admitted you if they did not think you could handle it.

Are you doing a revisit?

Hey Lax
Welcome to the club! We obviously will not be in the same forms(I am going into 3rd from), but this year the admissions has been so hard, only three people on cc will be going next year, but now make it 4 with you! What sports do you play?

I had a question for anyone who knows SPS pretty well. I come from a southern state, and I wanted to put my states flag up in my room. I am certainly not a racist, but some people may get the wrong feelings about it? It is just the cross of St. Andrew’s. Do you think anybody might look at it and mistake me for a racist. Would I be ridiculed for it? One of the reasons I wanted to put it up is b/c of this quote. “Remember who you are and where you came from.”

laxislife1265 - Congratulations on a fine choice! What position do you play? You must be from NJ!

Thank you Winterset, KCcansps15, and Sarum! I play or have played, baseball, soccer, golf, skiing, and wakeboarding/waterskiing/kneeboarding on my own. I will be playing club tennis, varsity wrestling, and obviously varsity lacrosse (as a goalkeeper) at SPS. You were close Sarum with the guess, but I am actually from southern New York (lower hudson valley). I’m assuming you guessed I was from New Jersey because coach Colbert was scouting at Tri-State? Also are you on the team?

like the username bro
i have question why would you choose ISL lax over founder’s lax as founder’s is much stronger and it is much easier to get recruited from founder’s lax programs than ISL…or so i have heard

Well for a couple reasons. First off coach Colbert approached me so i wasn’t exactly seeking out schools. Second I play a lot of summer lax (playing for the Long Island Express this summer) so I’m not too concerned with the recruiting associated with the league. Last but not least, I just loved SPS :D

KCcanSPS15: No one will think you are racist for putting your flag up…however we aren’t allowed to put flags, jerseys, or fabric on the wall in the first place…

Lax:
Congrats on getting in! Like others said, it was difficult to get in this year :stuck_out_tongue:
I’m a current student at SPS

Thank you! I’m assuming you love it? Are the academics hard to keep up with? I understand how vague the question is but I’ll put it this way. I’m a fairly smart kid but have not been the best student up until now (89 average taking a few pretty challenging classes) and I’m considering taking 5 classes: Hum V (obviously), advanced physics (I’m a repeat junior so I’ve taken physics, bio, earth science and AP chem), advanced bio, intro to music (I play the electric bass but don’t know if I’m good enough for applied), and Advanced Calculus. As SPS goes how heavy a workload is that? Will it be impossible to keep up with? Also what form are you? Will I be seeing you next year?

Lax, I’m the dad of a SPS lax player:) (not a goalie)

:) Great fun… This morning’s announcements suggests that for revisit, Third formers should move to “sleepy hollow”, you can guess why it is called that! I guess the applicants are expected to stay awake.

The work progresses on the new Math - Science center. https://www.sps.edu/podium/default.aspx?t=6183

Ooh hooray! It will be done in time for my senior year!
