St. Paul's School vs. Exeter

Thanks for the advice.

I felt that the difference between both places was largely the size, 1200 vs. 600 students and the 100% boarding student body. The sport, the academics and all the rest are very similar

I thought Exeter had a student body of 1050. I don’t really know :).

These two schools could not be more different. In all honesty, anyone who has dealt with who they are will not be choosing between these two. Choose between Andover and Exeter if you want a larger community, more competition (and don’t mind being a small fish in a relatively big pond) andmore course offerings.

Choose between SPS, Deerfield and Groton if you want the smaller community, more nurturing and a lower key lifestyle.

My boyfriend went to SPS and I’ve come to love it (of course it’s still nowhere near as great at Groton!). Being 100% boarding and having all teachers live on campus gives it a community feel that’s hard to beat.

Exeter has an amazing range of course offerings.

Thanks for the input. I made this thread a long time ago and I revived it to ask a question, but I can’t remember what it is…ugh!!!

Just go with your heart esahopeful. We can give you all the advice in the world, but at the end of the day, you need to go with the school you truly feel is for you.

Good luck everyone with your decisions… They’re due pretty soon. Well anyway, this is my last day on the site until probably either tuesday or Thursday… I’m going on my revisits. See ya.

How was your re-visit? Did you enjoy the school? do you have any questions?

If choosing between Exeter and Andover, god man, Andover is the clear win!! We have a life!! We’re close to Boston. Our campus is much better. Fewer Saurday classes. Less stuffy. Harder to get into for good reason!! Go Big Blue!!!1

Exeter=nicer science center, this year they had the same acceptance %, and the facilities in my opinion were slightly more run down than Exeter’s. But anyway, let’s not get into the “better school” arguement seeing as it all has to do with opinions.

Hey everybody, I just got back from the SPS, Andover, and Exeter revisits and its like I’m in the same boat as before…which one should I go to? I have a few days to think it over, but each has its own pluses and minuses . I feel like I could fit at all three, but I’m waiting for that “something” that tells me which one I really want to go to. I hope this decision is easier for everyone else.

Btw, I think Gelb is a billion times better than Phelps!!! I thought the facilities at both A and E were comparable, except Exeter’s library trumps Andover’s by far!

“I feel like I could fit at all three, but I’m waiting for that “something” that tells me which one I really want to go to.”

esa, so you didn’t feel that “something” at any of the three schools? If not, at this point, I’d go with your gut feeling. Of course I’m bias towards Exeter, but I believe you would receive an excellent education in any of the three.

Yeah, I’m just waiting and reading more course descriptions.

I still really don’t see what you liked in the Gelb science center so much more than Phelps. Why do you like it sooooo much more?

In my opinion, you should really focus on the size. Academically the 3 schools are comparable, however, if you prefer small schools, then go for SPS. On the other hand, if you feel confortable in large settings then Exeter is for you. In any case, I would disregard Andover.
Close your eyes and imagine yourself waking up every morning, going to classes, eating lunch…do that for Exeter then for SPS and whichever gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling, that would be the one.
After all, after these 4 years, you will probably end at a big campus, why not take advantage now that you have a chance to attend a small school.

That’s true. I mean in the end, which school you went to (considering these 3) will not have a large impact in your future education and career.

Another thing to really consider is whether or not you think you can actually LIVE on these campuses for the majority of 4 years.

Exeter is perhaps a “large setting,” but the classes have twelve people or fewer -keep that in mind.

Yeah thanks for the advice everybody! I really am having a hard time deciding between SPS and Andover, because my passion is science (Andover has Gelb) and SPS has Humanities (which I love) and the small student body, which is really great. SPS’s science building is really old, rundown, and out-of-date looking compared to Gelb. If SPS had a new science building I wouldn’t have to think twice about going there.

So whay did you eliminate Exeter EAS? Kid’s I’d love your feedback after revisiting! What did you think was the difference between the students at the different schools? Anyone revisit Deerfield?

Well, I hated the Harkness method in science, and ultimately I didn’t like the 1000+ student body which is why I’ve made my decision and I’m definetely going to St. Paul’s School.
