The district trustees will have a special meeting whose agenda includes an executive sesssion (closed to the public) to consider “the evaluation, dismissal or disciplining of, or to hear complaints or charges brought against, a public officer, employee, staff member or individual agent, or public school student.”

I hope they all get suspended.

Deplorable.

I know this is the Cafe where pretty much anything goes as long as it is within the TOS, and I do agree that the costumes were completely inappropriate, but what is the purpose of this constant posting of threads to “outrage news” a la Facebook?

Good point. Actually, I would like to post threads with pictures of cats. They make most people happy, do not violate ToS, and we could all use some more happiness.

If they don’t spark conversation, they die pretty quickly. If they do, then that’s the purpose. Either way, I suppose being uninterested is s signal to oneself to scroll past. There’s always plenty else to read and discuss.

I just can’t belive this is real…

I love the quote from the first article. “We are better than this.” Um, apparently not.

How can they claim ignorance considering this climate. This school district is 10% Hispanic. This was willful and malicious. I hope they lose their jobs.

I too am tired of hearing mantras like “this is not who we are.” Yes, it is who we are, Until we face that reality I don’t really think things can get better.

It is who they are. These costumes took some effort to create- seems like there was time for someone to have second thoughts.

The really unbelievable part of this whole thing is this: ‘costumes came from a week-long team building activity, which he says was meant to focus on acts of respect and kindness.”

Funny how I have yet to see a Mexican in a serape or sombrero this century.

Was it supposed to be a history lesson gone really badly? As a Tex/Mex/Nat Am, I dont get it.

I don’t own a serape, but I do have a Mexican-inspired beach blanket.

I don’t have large sombrero, but I do wear a tennis visor.
As for the mustache, I reserve the right to plead the 5th (in about 5 years)!

Besides being racially motivated, I think it just shows an overall stupidity and lack of education.

This type of article takes the focus of the latest - horrible and depressing - jobs and economic report. IT lets us focus on what really matters, on the BIG issues…Oh…wait a minute…um…never mind…

Yes, it’s exactly who they are. They revealed themselves loud and clear.

I can’t imagine how it would feel to be one of the Hispanic children at that school or one of the parents that has to entrust their child to one of those teachers.

The depressing part is that next we will hear about a backlash in the community if any discipline is imposed on them.

Sometimes I hate my state. How can a place so beautiful have such ugly people?

People are perfectly capable of taking in and thinking about many different issues.

IT does really matter and it is a BIG issue.

Agreed - it is a big issue. It matters a lot to me.
