Stanford 2014 SCEAers

@Prussia!

you are my girl twin (or mabye im your girl twin :P)

yeah I totally agree!

although i suppose that isn’t a rare social progression to go through when meeting new people

Yeah, I imagine a lot of people act the same way, haha.

Mabye its just a large family

Crap, I feel PO’d. This guy who’s supposed to be a friend of mine went on attack mode and basically insulted me because I told him that I’d like to apply to Stanford next fall. I told him my stats (which aren’t exactly perfect in comparison to any of yours or his) and he told me bluntly that I have no chance. Of course he’s a freshman at UC Berkeley, which isn’t exactly known for intelligent people who know what they’re saying.

lol Shadow nice diss. He doesn’t know what his is talking about, when you’re at Stanford we’ll go prank him and his not as awesome school (this is assuming I get accepted too though, otherwise I guess you’re on your own, nah you’ll have friends…have fun pranking Berkeley!)

Berkeley and Stanford are like seriously sworn enemies. It’s a really intense rivalry, usually vented through sports. Haha. I’m not surprised he’d discourage you.
Don’t let 'im get through to you, man.

Shadow, you obviously hit a sore spot; he probably got rejected from Stanford last year. I wouldn’t worry about it.

But you shouldn’t knock Berkeley. I’ll probably end up there once Stanford turns me down. :P

^ for sure lol. berk ain’t such a bad school

speaking of which, anybody see the USC v. UCLA football game that almost turned into a brawl?

I agree with Starmie. Though I’m hoping Stanford doesn’t turn me down because I would accept in a heartbeat. Hard to stay postive though. It’s okay shadow, everyone doesn’t think I can get in to Stanford. Hopefully, I can get in and then they’ll feel silly :)

I sent in my app to UCLA and UC Berkeley a few hours ago, but I’ve felt conflicted about even doing it. I mean, they don’t give out much aid, and I can’t afford their hella-expensive tuition without it, even if I get accepted… Not to mention hearing about all those CA budget cuts and overcrowding… I guess it’s better to apply and speculate than not do it all, though. Who knows what’ll happen.

Yeah, guess so… You’d just think that as a friend, he’d at least be the slightest bit positive, but whatever. Plus I just got my community service form signed from when I was a leader at a kids’ camp this past summer and I got less hours than I technically should’ve received… eh!

Sorry for venting guys, haha.

I almost went to Big Game, but then I got too busy. I’m sure that was insane for any Stanford students who went to UCB.

Good night you guys!

My username’s just because my name is Ian and my middle name is Padraic. Thank you for thinking its cool though haha. I’m not applying to any other school in Cali, because all of the sunshine is reserved for Stanford.

BB
Berkeley Blows.

I know what you mean, Prussia. Even I’m starting to doubt the wisdom of attending a UC, and I’m in-state! The whole thing is quickly transforming from a public system to a California-specific chain of virtually private universities. And, unfortunately, there’s really no way to reverse it: our state constitution was amended to mandate both a balanced budget and a 2/3 public vote for any tax increases, which basically necessitates never-ending cuts. Hooray for the wonderful decision-making skills of California voters! :****D

@shadow, I understand that you are miffed about your friend. It must be hard, but in the end, it doesn’t matter what your friend thinks. Just focus on making your application amazing. And shouldn’t community service be about helping the community not getting hours for college? That’s why I chose not to include community service in my applications - I didn’t want to feel like I was doing community service just for college.

@anon

Yeah, I understand what you mean. I was just recording the hours because my school, while it doesn’t require evidence, strongly encourages it. Plus from what I’ve heard, it still counts for even a minimal amount for some schools. It probably just depends.

i did community service because i enjoyed it and liked what i was doing. but i had no problem putting it on my app. then again, community service (KEY CLUB) is my #1 activity that takes about 25 hours per week so it wouldn’t make sense to leave out.

Yeah, I’m kinda with NJDS. I didn’t put community service for itself, but I think the activities show different aspects of my personality, so I put it :)

I wish I were as noble as Anon, though.
