Stanford 2014 SCEAers

DANGIT I MISSED ALMOST HALF OF GOSSIP GIRL. oh well <^> i’m on the final scene guys. you should be proud of me !

My big thing on my application was designing a curriculum for a science camp I’ve been a counselor at for 3 years and a camper for 5. It’s all about “Going Green” and I taught the class for one week–with adult supervision of course. I loved the experience and felt that I actually changed some of the campers perspectives. Now I’m teaching it as an after school course at a local magnet middle school. It’s crazy how things snowball.

<—internship w/BSU Civil Engineering, my EC’s are pretty bad :****(

if there is anything that is the fatal wound in my app its probably my ECs

meh. my biggest things were key club, yearbook, and class of 2010… but it feels good making about 300 or 400 of the 500 people in your class scream with glee (: and yearbook takes hours…made me addicted to photoshopping!

i really wish stanford let us send 2 supplementary recommendations instead of 1
really really badly

@everyone, I’m not suggesting that everyone should leave community off, I just know that if colleges didn’t like it so much, most kids wouldn’t bother taking time to volunteer. So I didn’t want to risk community service turning into something that I did for college - I needed to know that I was doing it for myself.

But in no way am I suggesting that it’s wrong to put it on an application. I think doing community service is good, regardless of the reasons behind it.

@NJDS

who would be your +2?

who was your +1?

I wish you didn’t have to be a published author or an olympic athlete to get into Stanford. I’m not up for eugenics, but I think we should find a way to put those kids…somewhere else.
…
:)

NJDS me too! yeah i know like 2 more teachers who write amaaaaaaaaaaazing letters of rec. wouldn’t be hard to choose one more.

Hmm, interesting point to bring up about the extra rec. I’m planning on using the one for the guy who is in charge of that EC that I was just talking about because I’ve gone to the camp for 9+ years, plus I was a leader this past summer and plan to be next summer as well. Additionally, he’s known me pretty much my entire life and seen me mature (unless I haven’t matured!) so I figure it’ll look exceptional on the application. Yet, given the opportunity to use a second supplement rec, I have no idea who I would choose. I’ve moved around to different places every few years, so I really don’t have anyone else who has known me long enough.

@Dig, i think they discourage getting an additional rec from teachers. They would prefer someone who could offer additional insight as to what you do/who you are outside the classroom.

Hahaha Prussia!

I can’t relate, as I am both a published author and an Olympic athlete. As well as the founder of various charities, the donor of several organs, a famous painter with works in museums in Europe, the conqueror of several small nations, and a Stanford applicant.

:)

Ok. Brief interruption–I legitimately just found the admissions counselor I met at a fair on Facebook. I have been in contact with him through a few emails–Friending him = creeper?

Haha I think you’re addressing IPadriac, Anon!
It’s like NJDS and Nitro all over again!

I myself am President and Dictator of a small country.

Is he going to be the one reviewing your app?

i would say a l’il lurchy either way though.

oh, if he accepted then whatever but if you were debating whether or not to send one, i dont think i personally would.

i suppose it also depends on the emails.

@IPadraic, I know I wouldn’t do that, and I’m betting Diivio wouldn’t either, lol.

But all in all, I don’t think that’s creepy, otherwise the guy wouldn’t have accepted your friend request.

Well, there was actually a featured discussion on that a while back, right here:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/784219-friending-college-admission-officers-facebook.html

I personally wouldn’t do it just because I don’t use facebook much, but I don’t see a big problem with it.

oh really? i was really close to them, he was also track coach + yearbook advisor + someone i always went to with problems. i thought he seemed fit.

Published author/Olympic athlete? That’s small-time stuff. I’m the leader of the secret Jewish conspiracy. I also invented sex.

I want 2800!

Yeah, lame post, haha…

Yay, my first special number!

I collaborated with Al Gore to create the internet.
