Stanford 2014 SCEAers

Haha no I’m not, just a fun fact I know. I like how me possibly being Russian got more excitement from you than knowing Purdue’s meaning.

Oh wow that’s kind of confusing lol. But okay, so South India. Cool.

@mfederman

I don’t find earthquakes all that scary. I would be much more freaked out by a tornado. Although my friend who moved here from Arkansas has the exact opposite feeling. If you end up here, you’ll probably be super freaked out the first time you feel one (and natives like me will make fun of you), but they aren’t that scary unless they’re huge. Of course, I missed the '89 quake by a few years so I might have a different opinion if I had been born a little earlier.

Lol I have a bit of a Russian obsession. When I’m drunk I talk in all the Russian I know, and I absolutely love Russian lit, and I would KILL KILL KILL to visit Russia someday.

Crime and Punishment was a good book, and it was Russian lol. I have a cousin who is in Moscow’s med school and he likes it there too.

I like the Brothers Karamazov a loooooot better.

A girl at my school is reading that right now, she said she liked it better too, hmm I might have to read it now.

Read it read it read it!

Wait quasi in your location that description, is it about India (like a kama sutra reference or something) or is it the United States? I know it’s an inside joke but I sorta want to know what the inside joke is.

But Diivio, you hardly need to complain since you’re, if I remember correctly, ranked 1 out of your class at school right? (or did I mix you up with someone else?) :wink: I still stand by my opinion though. Everyone who applies still needs to have a competent GPA/academic statistic. I believe that for someone to be, for instance, at my academic level, they would still need an extreme load of EC’s as well as a terrific set of entrance essays. Just my firm set of beliefs ;)

@mfederman:

I’m from Cali, born and raised. Actually, they almost never get above the 3.5 scale mark. The one or two times a year that they do, they stay at or below 5.5 and generally, it’s that magnitude at the epicenter, not necessarily in the surrounding area (think of a splash). Since you have virtually no warning of an impending quake, it does get to be a bit frightening. The last time I felt a “substantial” one was about a year ago, I was sitting at my computer and it started “shaking” a bit (more like “wavering”) and it freaked me out because I had just moved from SoCal a year before (I’m right in SF now, so right on top of the San Andreas which actually happens to be one of the largest faults in Cali). I wouldn’t worry though. Just ignore the predictions of “the next big one” and you’ll be fine ;)

my uncle is actually in Russia right now visiting an old friend.
I was in Oklahoma for the may 3rd tornado, it destroyed my neighbor’s house, pulled our basketball goal out of the ground and threw it into the pool, shot a tree branch into the middle of our kitchen, and dropped a tree on the hood of my dad’s car. It was intense, it was an F5 (the strongest).

I am rank 1 at my school and have straights A’s but my test scores are sub par(32 ACT and 740 SAT2), so I hope my essays/recs make up for my test scores.

wow mfed, I should prolly not complain about Idaho being boring now…

Oh yeah, and mfederman:

I was in the Northridge quake ([1994 Northridge earthquake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](1994 Northridge earthquake - Wikipedia)) when I was a couple years old, but slept through it. Usually, unless you’re an extremely light sleeper, you’ll sleep right through them at night.

ya at least you can sort of sense a tornado coming. You can kind of just feel it. But I think that the surprise of a quake would scare the hell out of me.

@Diivio, the scary one’s are not very common and they keep it exciting (but sad when they hit a populated area).

@shadow, wow that sounds scary. And I am a VERY heavy sleeper haha. When I was a few years old the Oklahoma City bombing opened the doors in my house.

Diivio, hoping this explains:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/international-students/640526-class-2014-a-305.html

HOLY **** that is some tornado.

@Quasi- lol I see…
thanks!

bwt Quasi, are Punjabi people from the North? When I went to Malaysia some INdians asked if I was punjabi since apparently I look like one, but I said no since I didn’t really know what they were.

I am pretty sure Punjab was on the south western part of india

I just checked Wiki and it’s Northwest part of India., apparently, It borders Pakistan I think. Is Punjab the state with the Siks or those non Muslim people that also wear turbans, but their turbans are differnt from Muslim turbans?

wow seems like I’ve missed a lot in the past…14 hours. recap ?
