I have a sibling who goes to Stanford and loves it, and I’ve visited it a few times so it’s going to sting if/(probably)when I get rejected.

I think for Stanford, if you apply there for EA, you can’t for anywhere else. I’m not sure about Yale.

You are correct, corale05–both Stanford and Yale have restricted, single-choice early action options. That means a student can only apply early to one of those colleges, and also can’t apply early elsewhere, with certain limited exceptions (such as at rolling-admissions colleges). Of course, students can apply for regular-decision admission anywhere after applying early to either Stanford or Yale, since their early-action programs are not binding.

Both Stanford and Yale have SCEA only, which means that you can only apply early to one or the other.

corale05 you have right.I looked at the site of stanford University and I found this:

It’s obvious that I will not be able to apply to both universities. Its ok though…:)

Thank you corale05 for your answer:)

This isn’t necessarily true and is somewhat misleading.

There are exceptions to Stanford’s SCEA, and they are posted on [Stanford’s website](<a href=“Page Not Found : Stanford University”>Page Not Found : Stanford University)

Make the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/stanford-university/800082-stanford-2014-sceaers.html proud :P

^ Oh, we definitely will! (Or at least, we’ll try to :P)

I’m not applying SCEA myself, though several other posters in this thread have stated that they will. In fact, I’m most likely going to apply RD everywhere, mainly also because I’ll be transferring schools in between junior and senior year and things will be complicated that way…

I’m also weighting between applying EA to Yale or Stanford. I’m pretty sure many people probably feels the same. I am an international applying for aid. Yale’s need-blindness makes it very seductive. But Stanford is so amazing as well. How about you guys? What are your reasons for choosing to EA to Stanford over another highly top-notch schools, ones like Yale?

I also thought about applying EA to Yale instead of Stanford at one point. After I compared the two colleges, I picked Stanford because it offered more of what I was looking for:

Better weather

Top notch academics AND athletics

Laid-back/relaxed atmosphere

A gorgeous, cohesive campus

The students are diverse and happy

It’s good (Top 5) in all the areas I’m considering majoring in

The reasons that I could choose Stanford over Yale were the following:

1)Lovely campus
2)The weather conditions
3)Has an excellent department of Mechanical Engineering
4)Is one of my top choices which I apply…

But if I get in Stanford or Yale I will be very very happy…All universities that I am apply for, they have the same place in my heart:D

I’ll probably be using my SCEA on that college in New Haven but if by some miracle both S and Y accept me, it’ll be quite difficult to make a decision.

I plan on applying SCEA. I’m expecting a deferral because my GPA is LOW. I plan on getting a 2200+ on the SAT, and expecting Stanford to be interested in the second semester of my senior year and if I kept up my upward trend. That’s probably the only way I’ll get in. My essays and other stuff needs to be up to par as well and just let the chips fall where they may. :D

What are some of all y’alls stats?

What kind of stats? lol. I just signed up for CC. Like grades, test scores, extracurriculars, race?

I’m pretty much your stereotypical CCer plus a few varsity sports.

That’s not such a good statement because the stereotypical CCer gets rejected from most ivies :

In order to help people in the college app process, we need details

I dont write yet SAT and TOEFL exams…So my stats are not complete…But I cannot say that I am typical CCer…Everyone has something unique…

Haven’t done SAT yet either…

PRINCETON!!! Hahahaha, I was rejected SCEA this year, and I was devastated. It’s still weird to think that I won’t be going there, but I got into other amazing schools and I’m very happy. Some things I learned:

Don’t compare stats with other CCers. They are not a good representation of the people you will actually be competing with. Furthermore, Stanford seems to care a lot less about scores/grades than other schools. When they say the evaluate everyone holistically, they mean it. Find passion in something and give your whole heart to it. The real difference between the people who got in and the people who didn’t was that the people who got in were excellent at one, interesting thing. I know a ballet dancer and a singer that got in and dozens of perfect scores that were rejected.

Love Stanford (or whatever school you want to get into), but realize that there are so many amazing schools. Such as Princeton. :)

Be as epic as the 2014 SCEAers.

Start writing your essays early and don’t be afraid to change your topic many times until you find one that suits you. I know that people say this all the time, but don’t write things you think are right to say. For one of my supplemental essays, I wrote about all the flaws in a school but how I still wanted to go there. I got in :)

Visit the school and the surronding area if you can. A lot of people have a perception about Stanford that isn’t necessarily completely true. Stanford would have been good for me, but there are some people that would hate it there.

Good luck!
