I submitted the FAFSA and CSS Profile but the IDOC deadline is April 1st.
Yeah just get them in @kaufman123 . Unless I’m mistaken (and someone correct me if I’m wrong) but the deadline is if you want your financial aid estimate along with your admission decision. If you submit documents late, then you’re aid package will just come later
All right, my parents just now got their tax returns. I just don’t know whether I should use IDOC or not since they sent an email saying to disregard the previous instructional email stating how to submit docs.
Oh I see what you mean @kaufman123 . I feel like the email telling to submit documents and then the disregard email was sent to everyone. That’s what I think; so they weren’t telling you not to submit any of your docs anymore. Getting them in late is better than not getting them in at all imo
@kaufman123 Yes - you are right - Stanford’s deadline is 4/1. Two of my kid’s school’s deadlines were 3/1 so I did all of them by that date and forgot about any other date. Because the college board is running late on processing the forms and making them available tot he schools, I suggest you turn it in asap so Stanford may get it by 4/1. There are forms I submitted on 2/17 that have not been made available to the schools.
Trust me, everyone has to send them in regardless of what the email said. Have you logged into IDOC ? It will tell you what you are missing. This is a complicated process and I am glad we are only subjected to this once per year.
I have not logged in but will do so later tonight. I feel like an accountant with all of the tax information needing to be submitted.
I used to be of the camp, ‘oh FAFSA and CSS aren’t that bad’, but IDOC is something else. What doesn’t college board understand: I don’t have W-2 or 1099 Forms! I don’t work
I don’t even have a part-time job until the summer and trying to find my w-2 and tax information from the summer is hard enough. I wish my parents would just submit this info rather than having me do it haha.
I guess me and you (excuse me I want double major in English) you and I have to learn how to be independent at some point right? @kaufman123
I guess so @emenya , as sad as it may sound haha!
@emenya There is a non filer form you submit when you don’t have a W-2 or 1099. I really think parents should do this WITH their kids at the very least. I’m a parent and it is not an easy process. The FAFSA was much easier - they take your word for everything (could be because they have access to federal databases) but the College Board wants itemized proof.
I emailed the financial aid office a while back, and they said that we don’t technically need to upload anything on IDOC before the deadline. We just have to upload them “as soon as possible,” even if it is after the deadline. My parents don’t file their taxes until April 15, so it would be impossible for me to turn everything in before that.
Besides, April 15 is after decision day, so I’ll already be getting my rejection by then xD
@frodosdojo Would I find this form on IDOC or…? I’m completely foreign to this whole process. And the FAFSA was loads easier
@mountweazels Your rejection from Hogwarts? That sucks! But at least you’ll be looking forward to Stanford
The reason why I urge you guys to do everything asap and/or in advance is generally, applicants receive more money if they meet the deadlines. Let’s say you waited until June to finish your financial aid app. By that time, most of the aid is given out to those people who submitted early or on time. Most schools don’t have an endless supply of funds allotted each year. I can tell you form experience, I applied late to FA for Emory and did not get enough to cover expenses for the year. The FA office told me had I applied before 4/1, I would have gotten substantially more. No one wants to sit out a semester let alone a years of college because they missed a deadline.
@emenya When you log in, the top right has a yellow box. There is a page icon and next to it, it says “Click this icon for information and view/download a sample of the Required Document. View list of general and institutional specific forms.” The non tax filer form is listed. There are some school specific forms, too, if needed. I would also fill out the verification form if I were you.
@emenya LOLOL, I suppose so!
I keep checking my email and the really outdated portal Stanford has (it truly looks like 2005)… nothing… the nothingness truly truly truly scares me. Anyone else?
Hi All,
Regarding FAFSA, CSS Profile and IDOC :
It appears that many of you are not understanding the requirements of the documents and the corresponding deadlines.
If you have not already done IDOC but finished FAFSA, CSS profile and taxes, please understand that the IDOCs is at least fifteen days behind. You can submit IDOCs and You can call Financial aid office at Stanford and find out whether you can fax or upload your documents to them directly due to the IDOC delays and your missing the deadline. They may provide you an alternative to send them at least the important documents while IDOCs is taking its own time.
Normally the financial aid package will be provided to admitted students by end of first week of April by them, so it is imperative you submit all the necessary documents ASAP.
Also note item number 11 in Stanford Financial Aid FAQs, that addresses the specific glitch mentioned by @mountweazels and @emenya
http://financialaid.stanford.edu/site/faq/index.html#faq_7
excerpt below:
11. Stanford does not appear as one of the schools that participates in IDOC on the confirmation email sent by College Board or when I log in to IDOC. Should I send my documents directly to the Financial Aid Office?
No. You can rest assured that your documents will be sent to Stanford Financial Aid Office despite this technical error.
