***Stanford Class of 2019 Applicant Discussion***

@Visionary123 I understand the anxiety fully!!! Sometimes you may be pleasantly surprised by an acceptance from a least expected place.

might be kind of late for a chance but i was just wondering how much the art supplement might play into the admission factor? i have low gpa/sat (2000, 3.8) but ive won international awards in chinese traditional art and so i submitted a portfolio and I’m hoping that might help out. of course ive got other things but should i give up hope because of my academics or hold out hope because of my art (plus great essays and [imo] spectacular other EC’s)? i know stanford is unpredictable but guidance counselors, etc. haven’t given me any direction with this haha so I’m just looking for some input

@imsoworried‌

You sound kind of like me! By the way, which international award did you win? I did Chinese painting for 6 years before high school but didn’t submit a portfolio. Now I’m really regretting not submitting one because of my indecisiveness haha. And I’m sure you will be fine. I’ve noticed Stanford is one of the most selective schools with lower average scores than other colleges like Princeton, so Stanford probably weight scores a little bit less.

@fairyfantasy‌ i would prefer not to answer because you can find my name on google if you search it haha  but hey thats great i don’t find many people who practice chinese art on CC!! I’m really hoping you’re right because that SAT definitely isn’t working in my favor LOL but thanks for your input!

Is it true that Stanford and Princeton both emphasize scores less than other schools?

@Barbiegirl123775 I heard the exact opposite thing about Princeton lol.

@Barbiegirl123775‌ For Stanford, scores are not the end all like they are for some of its peer schools. I feel like Stanford, more than any other school, embodies the phrase ‘holistic admissions’.

@emenya @Barbiegirl123775‌ True dat. I know a girl who got in with SAT IIs in the mid-600s so do not fret.

Thank you, @collegePapa‌! I really hope so! I just love Stanford so much for a combination of both academic and personal reasons!

What @emenya‌ said it’s incredibly true! Likewise, I also think that Stanford is the ONLY elite university that actually takes a hosllitic approach to admissions. Stanford recognizes that the next world leader, or tech entrepreneur, or researcher who finds the cure for cancer, might not have the best numbers, but has the intellectual vitality and persistence needed to be great and successful. In that sense, and in many others, the Ivy League has A LOT to learn from Stanford. I LOVE STANFORD! :’-(

sigh ily stanford

has anyone gotten a letter yet?

I don’t think it’s true that Stanford is unique or better than its peer institutions in terms of holistic admissions. My impression is that most, if not all, of the very top schools are comparable in this respect, because they don’t have to focus on just scores, etc. As decision time nears for Stanford and the Ivys, I think it’s important for applicants not to overly idealize a particular school. Every single school, including Stanford (and Harvard, and Yale, and Princeton, etc.), has significant flaws. Yes, these schools are all great in some ways, but they’re certainly not perfect. Keep that in mind and you’ll feel a lot better if you don’t end up getting into your dream school. And if you do, that dream will become reality next year—a reality that has things you’ll like and things you really won’t.

i want to hear back soo badly. is it a bad sign if I got waitlisted from HMC yesterday?

lol of course not @RunningForLife‌ . HMC admissions office is completely different from Stanford’s. Let’s just see what happens in April

When do you think decisions are coming out? I know the website says April 1, but it seems that results have come out earlier in the past. Could it be this Friday, March 27?

I doubt it, tbh. Stanford likes to release after the ivies, and since they’ve decided to release late af this year, Stanford will most likely actually release on April 1st this year. Sigh.

The Ivies have firmly established that the 31st will be the singular announcement day.

@apesrocks Stanford traditionally releases their results the day after Ivys. Since Ivy Day is March 31 this year, Stanford will most likely be releasing on April 1. :frowning:

With decision day nigh, I took some time to read my essays. I’m definitely glad that the process is over, but I can’t help to appreciate all the time I spent on them.

I dont mean to be a downer but wouldnt Stanford’s scores be lower due to the amount of athletic recruits?
