@tamales it’s been three hours and I’m still shaking!
I got in! I really didn’t think I would make it. Excited to see some of you guys soon!
I got in, but I checked right at five. I didn’t get an email from Stanford that I had an update; just had to log in to the portal. Do they just not send an email if you checked early?
tfw stanford rejects you and you gotta pretend like you okay lol
To anyone who has a question about logging into Axess to find out your financial aid award: As I recall, we did not receive an email from Stanford last year about how to do this. I had to do a bunch of Googling and then figure it out—you need to set up an account with your SUNetID, which you should see somewhere on your admission letter or perhaps elsewhere. Last year, when setting up our Axess account, I either typed dashes in the phone number or left them out—I don’t remember, but I think it was the former (so, I typed XXX-XXX-XXXX instead of XXXXXXXXXX). This ended up being a problem, and I had to then contact Stanford’s computer help staff (who were extremely responsive and helpful!) to get things straightened out. To make a long story short, I was ultimately able to get in and see the award and didn’t have to wait 24 hours. Sorry I can’t remember all the details, but going to this page may help: https://accounts.stanford.edu. You’ll also have to choose a password and, as I recall, an authentication method. It’s complicated, but don’t lose hope—you’ll eventually get in!
@Planner Thanks! I’ve got that part down but for some reason when I click ‘View Award Letters’ when I’m on AXESS, nothing happens. Or if I click the accept/decline award link it’ll say ‘No self-service access for this aid year.’
@willows @idokyungsoo and others THE WAITLIST IS NOT BINDING. Read again what you copied and pasted in your post: “offered and ACCEPT admission.” What they are saying is that if you are offered admission off the waitlist and CHOOSE to accept it, that your decision is binding and you have to withdraw your other acceptance to the other school (and loose your deposit). THAT is what is binding. You are not BOUND to Stanford to accept if they take you off the waitlist. C’mon–you all are supposed to be the smartest!!! LOL
@tamales lol at your username
@jamini Although I realized that the offer wasn’t binding before your post, thanks for your reply. When emotions are a bit high after receiving something disappointing, you can sometimes, I guess, become stupid and forget to read
@idokyungsoo Don’t let this get to you! You got into Yale! YALE!!! And they want you so much they told you before they even had to! Do you know how unbelievably incredible that is! Smile! Hug yourself! You are amazing!
@chocodog and @mountaingoats: Is there a drop-down menu from “View Award Letters”? If not, maybe try hovering over “Student” at the top of the page; “Quick Links” should appear, and there’s another “View Award Letters” link. You’ll still have to click on the actual award letter link after that. Hopefully this will work—if not, you could try contacting the Stanford computer/IT help: https://uit.stanford.edu/service/help
@Planner Strangely enough, the link to the award letter isn’t working. I’ll call up IT tomorrow. Thanks for your help!
Waitlisted and I feel honored.
@Planner yeah that’s the link part that isn’t working. Will call IT tomorrow, thank you!
Accepted!
Now I have to choose between Stanford and Harvard
@mountaingoats It just hit me while I was driving that I got in and I actually almost started crying
@potterfan I made this account while I was eating a delicious traditional Mexican dish. Also I just love tamales. :-h
@chocodog and @mountaingoats: Strange—IT should be able to help you. As I recall, I contacted them pretty late that night and got a very fast response. My impression was that they worked round the clock, so if you don’t want to wait till tomorrow, you could try tonight. Good luck!
@Beckham25 and anyone else trying to choose between Stanford, Harvard, etc.: Congratulations! My son had to make the same choice last year (between Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and another top school). It was a difficult decision, and I recently wrote about some of the factors that ended up being important here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19259112/#Comment_19259112
