@Agui25 They may when you mentioned two specific blogs in your essay as a sample of your interest or work. Agree they will not check general social media.
@DryMango Doubt they are that devious.
Quick question - is it at all possible that the decision would be released early? Last year’s release date was also the last Friday of March. However it was the 4th Friday of March, and this March, we have 5 Fridays. Could decision potentially be released on the 4th Friday of March (next week)? Or once they state a date, they stick to it?
A few other colleges have released earlier than originally stated so I was hopeful, but I may just be pushing it.
I’m pretty sure that the colleges just set a date as their deadline, so people don’t expect decisions to be sent out earlier in case admissions took longer than expected or something but so far i have only seen one school not send out decisions earlier. I hope they do let us know soon!
11 days… If anyone happens to figure out a way to somehow skip a few weeks and fast-forward to the first week of April so we can put an end to this anxiety, please do share with us.
Since we have time to pass and are all thinking about it anyway… did everyone have an alumni interview? How did it go and how much weight do you think it actually has (if any)?
i didn’t have an interview (i’m from MA)
I had an interview! It went smoothly and was very casual. She was super nice and fairly young. If it has any weight at all, I think it’s to put a face to someone’s application and to really get to know the applicant as a person.
I had an interview and i thought it went well. All the colleges say that interviews do not mean much in regards to your application but I think a good interview can help. I’m from MA too.
I just talked to my child about the upcoming decision day. The response I got was that either way it would be Okay. Every student knows it is a VERY competitive process to Stanford. As long as one’s safety school sends out the admission notice, anything better than that would be a bonus, if not a miracle. Good luck to you all.
@2017MITDad Stanford was supposed to be our out-of-reach school and UCLA was supposed to be our “safety” school. Would have been ok with a deferral but got into Stanford but was rejected by UCLA. Before you ask “How can you consider UCLA a safety school?”, we applied for a non-STEM major, and 40+ students from my kid’s school get accepted by UCLA every year, and we thought our kid was definitely among top 20 kids at our high school and I personally thought our kid was super strong candidate for this particular major. For us, this definitely wasn’t what we expected but we will take it. lol On the other hand, had our kid not gotten into Stanford REA, our kid would NOT be in a good position, although there was the last option of attending an Honors College at top 130 ranked state school on a near full-ride scholarship.
I didn’t get an interview (California) and I’m hopinf that doesn’t go against me. Is everyone supposed to get interviews or just certain areas? Last year some people had interviews from my town but this year (as far as I’ve heard) nobody has gotten an interview.
No one from CA gets interviews @wg2017
Why would California residents not get interviews? Just curious since it seems like there should be a large alumni pool there. My son had one here in CO. It went great so I was hoping it would have weight, but I understand it likely doesn’t.
@websensation that was the case with some of last year’s graduates at my school as well. 2 or 3 of the very top students were waitlisted at UCLA but accepted at Stanford and MIT for the same major. UCLA received a ridiculous number of applications (highest in nation), so its rejections/waitlists can seem random.
@momof3co i believe they realized this, so starting fall 2017 for the class of 2022 they will have CA interviews. Before, they may have thought that many of the Stanford alumni would have too strong of a connection with many applicants in this area. I find this certainly true with my school, a lot of people do internships and research at Stanford, have siblings and parents who know many people there- it could make the process hard to coordinate (to make sure people don’t know each other beforehand) and unfair.
@momof3co @cjchasinglife We have not offered CA interviews, largely because it is the most populous state, as well as the one where the highest percentage of applicants apply from. To offer interviews in CA is a big undertaking. This coming cycle will see the start of the gradual rollout of CA interviews, limited to a subset of counties (they’ve told us which ones, but I’m not sure if it’s been publicly announced yet). As stated on our admissions websites and interviews with the dean, whether or not an interview report is included in a file does not statistically confer any advantage or disadvantage.
Hey guys, I’m currently a Stanford freshmen! My brother applied to Stanford and we wanna know how much of a legacy he’ll have? Do siblings of current students get any legacy status? It’s late and I don’t wanna wait 'til the morning to ask the admissions office.
I think it can help a bit but nowhere near as much as a parent legacy. It definitely can’t hurt you.
But can’t you just wait for decisions to come out? At this point the decisions have been made and it’s not going to change now.
