Just FYI - our son was accepted to Stanford last year, and decided to defer his enrollment for a year (he’s been working and traveling). He received a big white envelope from Stanford at our home in CO today, with “Congratulations” printed on the outside. Inside was a red Stanford folder, which included a personal letter from the Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, acknowledging his gap year and his plan to attend Stanford this fall, and encouraging him to attend the Admit Weekend. The rest of the material looks like info that will go to all admitted students. There was a four-page red brochure with “Stanford Class of 21” on the outside, which included enrollment instructions, etc. There was also a 30-page brochure titled “Stanford Admit Weekend 2017,” with loads of detailed info. The event starts Thursday April 27 at 2:00 pm, and ends Saturday April. 29 at noon.
Best of luck to all of you who are anxiously waiting to hear from Stanford - it won’t be long now!
Its tough, but we should all expect the worst. I was deferred, and boy has it been the worst thing ever. Every single day since december 9th, I’ve thought about stanford for maybe like 3 hours. What I have been doing is just expecting rejection (even though my mind wanders to how it might feel to be accepted…) and trying to fall in love with a school that I’ve already been admitted to (go sagehens!!! lol). I know that if I’m rejected in 3.5 days it’ll completely destroy me for a little bit, but I also know that I’ll be relieved that the wait is finally over, and I’ll be able to know where I’m gonna spend the next 4 years. We should all just try to chill, stop harassing stanford, and wait it out… We’re almost there.
how about we list the cons about stanford so we feel better if we get rejected and get to appreciate our other schools more haha
@kalons i’m in the same boat as you since i was also rejected by usc. college decisions are weird bc i got into mit and berkeley so don’t be too worried about your future decisions!
@writernwriters don’t give up hope. We were shocked when my son got accepted. We weren’t expecting it and then bam! Congratulations you’ve been accepted in the class of 2021. You never know what will happen. Best of luck to you and hope to see you at the farm
@GeoffWii2 Oh my God, thank you so much for your kind words! I’m an anxious little thing snooping around on CC at 3:45am, and you just made my day. I’m feeling slightly better (and probably a little less realistic) about my chance of getting in.
I just wanted to correct my previous comment. Actually everybody has a SUID and when you try to login using the ID, the information gets sent to the IT servers which then are able to detect your file (which would be created at the time you attempt to login). I just wanted to debunk this floating myth that there is a loophole.
The IT department should be left to prepare for the onslaught of activity on their servers on the 31st so we don’t experience the same challenges that USC applicants had when their decisions were released.
@KG5APR I had a short conversation with the server manager. That is the reason why IT was unable to find you on their server on Thursday but were able to find you on Friday because you attempted to login on that day when you received your SUID from SSS.
@USUG21 - if you wait till March 31st, you will find your SUID. By calling student services or IT, we may just be adding unnecessary work for them. What if they find out that this was an unacceptable trick and then have to redo their entire decisions and / or take other action? Probably not worth it IMHO.
