Stanford Class of 2021 Applicant Discussion

Keep in mind my sweets, CathinCollege was rejected by both Yale and Harvard but was accepted to Stanford! Anything is possible.

i got rejected at harvard, yale, brown, and penn, waitlisted at columbia. whatever happens, i know we’ll be okay. this college process seems tough now, but at some point we’ll be able to look back and appreciate the experience, however it looked for people. i also have barnard, which is a dream, so i’m just patiently waiting my rejection from stanford :stuck_out_tongue:

were they not supposed to come out just now?

They tweeted 4pm PST so no

Bay area senior here - didn’t get an interview somehow. Is this normal or do they just do that to save their time with people they’ll reject anyway?

4:00 pm… Wishing EVERYONE ALL THE BEST!!

@cpefqeFp - Stanford does not offer interviews in CA

@soulpup Thanks for your kind words  they are amazing schools, and I’m very grateful that I was accepted. I’m sure I’ll love wherever I end up going - the Ivy rejection is just a bit of a temporary self-esteem killer.

@qwertyem564 I have a son at Michigan. Its’s a fantastic school if you want to have worldwide name recognition, huge school spirit, excellent academics, and top-tier sports. My son was also turned down by Ivies and Stanford, and he is so thankful for that now because he loves his school, professors, and the fun campus life.

@qwertyem564

I had the same situation… I’m not sure what I’m gonna do

@MedSciBud thanks for letting me know

Good luck to all! I hope that where ever we each end up, we will make our mark in the world with or without the help of Stanford University. After all, we are the last graduating class of the 90s/1900s.

@Googlestoomuch That’s great to hear that your son loves UMich! I’m leaning towards going there, especially because I plan to study engineering. My parents also went to Michigan, and they loved it. lol Go Blue!

I was admitted to Stanford REA and found out yesterday that I got into Princeton RD. I am thrilled, genuinely surprised and immensely grateful. It seems there is a connection for a lot of people between these two schools. But I also got waitlisted for UCLA. I did not apply to Cal. So it is very difficult to wrap your head around why one capable student and not another is accepted or rejected. The only glimpse I have into this is with another student at my high school. He is bright, naturally smart and all-around very likable, but he only challenged himself in math and science. He took all the advanced courses in those subjects and scored very well on his ACT and SAT Subject tests. But he never challenged himself in English, History or other subjects that would potentially impact his GPA. He also never held a job and had minimal EC’s. He got into Cal and UCLA, but was either rejected or waitlisted at all the Ivies or top schools. All are very good schools, but I think some may put a bit more emphasis on grades and test scores first, before other more holistic considerations.

Folks, Ivies and Stanford,MIT are great but at the end of the day it all depends on you - the student. What you make out of your education. There are lots of great public schools , such as U Mich, UT Austin, UNC, UW, UIUC, UVA , UCLA and so on who have produced very successful people. Dont get sucked into marketing of Ivies - believe in yourself and you all will do awesome. Frankly save yourself and your parents some money and use the savings to go to a grad school. Good luck y’all.

I’m an international applicant for CS undergrad. Was thrilled to get the letter from Brown CS. (SAT - 1520). Now waiting Stanford, really hoping for a miracle here or else it has to be brown…

Refreshing every 10 mins now, wow this is nerve wrecking.

Hold on tight, just 40 minutes to go!

Since yesterday was the biggest day for most, now you know how to react and what to expect. Whatever happens now will be easier so do not worry!

Thanks for all the positive vibes we received on here throughout the process!

I did get a chance to do the alumni Interview. And I think overall it went quite well, does that affect anything?

@LaxmanS “Or else it has to be brown.” Lol get off of College Confidential. People like you are ungrateful… So many people I know got waitlisted or rejected at Brown, you should be ecstatic to have been accepted. Brown is such an amazing school and you know that. Please don’t pretend to act like you don’t want to go to Brown because you were probably jumping up and down when you received that acceptance. Good luck wherever you go, and I hope you fix this arrogant, ungrateful attitude by the time you graduate from college!

My daughter got Stamps President Scholarship at GA tech -She will probably take that offer over Berkley and UNC Chapel Hill, unless she gets into Stanford - patiently waiting…
