Stanford Class of 2023 Discussion

@classic10 Croatia :slight_smile:

My portal also didn’t change. International with an okay SAT (1400+), TOEFL 111 and SAT M2 770, didn’t apply for financial aid.
ECs:

  1. High-value startup (developing mobile and web platform where people could post their project ideas and collaborate on them with others) that received an investment offer of $1mm (not revenue)
  2. digital incubator for high schoolers around the world (helping them with their needs in mobile and web dev. and design). we are also organizing a summer camp at 3 Google Campuses for our members’ product launch
  3. published a REALLY REALLY novice book/workbook for young entrepreneurs with design thinking, UI/UX and coding challenges
  4. interned at my country’s ministry of energy as a research assistant and got a letter of recommendation from the deputy minister
  5. and etc. (MUN, online courses from Stanford on Cryptography and Machine Learning, and my artwork was exhibited at one of the largest public arts events)

My main common app essay was kind of mediocre and I’m not in love with 2 of my Stanford essays. Of course, expecting a rejection.

@Cedolino Cool. I have stats similar to yours. I am from Germany.

@classic10 Did you apply somewhere in Europe as well? I applied to Bocconi (Milan) and have been accepted a week ago.

I wouldn’t put much merit into any of the portal change theories because they’re all unsubstantiated. No one can really say what it means, if it means anything at all. The only way to know for sure about your Stanford decision status is to either get a LL or wait until decision day. Good luck guys!

@Jleto18 An applicant’s portal changed to the date he received his likely letter, I think there’s some merit behind the decision theory at this point, it can’t just be a random glitch.

There seems to be a strong correlation for the #NoPortalChangeGang between applicants with high scores, amazing ECs, diverse backgrounds, and special hooks (minority, legacy, and first-gen).

Correlation does not imply causation

There’s also been at least one applicant with a portal change on the weekends though, when I doubt decisions are being made. I’m sure there are also lots of students who look amazing who have early change dates, and lots of applicants who may seem more “average” with late change dates or no changes at all. I also think Stanford’s kind of notorious for letting in a diverse group of students that don’t all look like the students you would “expect” to get into Stanford, so I don’t think a bunch of students without portal changes looking like the kids you’d “expect” to get in can for sure mean anything. I think @Jleto18 is right and we just have to wait it out on this one

this is dumb, there are better things we can all spend our time doing

@drumminggeek87 Fair enough, I think we’re all just stressed about decisions and want some form of clarity to help us through this process.

@bigchungus785 Totally agree, and I don’t know about everyone else but I know my anxiety about the process and desire to know how everything works is really heightened with this massive admissions scandal, so I totally get the stress and desire to know. I just think we’re also all killing ourselves a little bit, potentially very unnecessarily trying to find this clarity unfortunately lol

Best of luck to all of you! Remembering this thrilling ride last year… you will land where you should♥️??

is the sat change date that everyone’s looking at on the checklist?

i don’t think the change matters so please stop saying that the portal change people are better or the no portal change people are. stop freaking people out please.

@Cedolino No, I have not. Might do work and travel if things do not work out.

@TheBeyonder

I concur with this theory. 5.0 GPA, 35 ACT, diverse background & 4+ ECs with similar scale to yours.

Of course, like everyone else, I dare not expect anything more than a rejection.

But… #NoPortalChangeGang

Some of the Ivies are starting to close their portals(the checklist specifically)…HMMMM…

@TheBeyonder What do you mean?

Check out the latest thread about the date changes in A2C. Apparently, the guy called the admissions office and they"told" him that those with date changes made it to the second round.
