Stanford Class of 2023 Discussion

@chrisread- I don’t believe that Stanford caps acceptances from one district or region (esp. a city as large as San Diego) We know one school in Long Beach (Poly) that got 5 or 6 REA acceptances already this year.

@singingbear nobody knows for sure yet, and the admissions office has not announced an official date, but I know that since at least 2016, they have always released on the last Friday of March, so the 29th (day after Ivy Day) is a pretty good guess.

@singingbear @apmaster10
I heard somewhere (I don’t know if it was an email, conversation, website…) that they’ll release on the 27th.

I think they’ll definitely release somewhere between the 27th and 29th (before April 1st for sure)! So just keep an eye out right now, they’ll probably email us all soon.

Good luck to everyone! And enjoy the spring

Is the #NoPortalChangeGang still alive and well? XD

@TheBeyonder Sadly, yes. I mean I am sure once decisions are out, we will see a trend between no change and rejection. I feel like people try to put every theory in their favor, but no portal change means that your profile was most likely not handeled, i.e., rejection (or, if you are a star, instant acceptance).

Yup, I’m an instant reject @TheBeyonder

Awwww, don’t say that. Have faith in yourself!

@classic10 Yeah, that wouldn’t surprise me. My son’s date has not changed and so far every top private college (in Calif) has rejected his application. On the other hand he is a big hit with the UC’s he applied to. UCI Regents Scholar w Honors, UCSD CS Free Ride w Chancellors Scholarship, UCSC CS. Im guessing there may be some kind of red flag in one of his LOR’s cuz the UC’s didnt get them and he is very much wanted there.

I too am afraid that the #NoPortalChangeGang is not a good thing. So far, I’ve been accepted to Georgia Tech, Michigan (after getting deferred), UC Davis, UCSB CCS Math, UCSD, and UCLA. I got deferred from Princeton SCEA, and recently got rejected from MIT and JHU. My date has still not changed. . . yet considering this info, I don’t think I’m a private school candidate

@LincolnsGF I’m literally in the same boat as you. I was even accepted from UIUC.

But this no change in portal is making me nervous af lol!

I don’t know, folks, but the no-portal-change folks are in the minority, based on these message boards, which means they are a smaller pool, and a smaller pool could certainly indicate the applicants getting the “yes” from Stanford. Or not. This whole process is making everyone’s brains explode!

For future readers of this thread, I would like to make several comments about the portal change. I am of a firm belief that the change in your portal doesn’t mean anything as far as acceptance/rejection/waitlist is concerned.

My daughter’s FA portal changed for Pomona (NCP waiver approved on 3/5) and she was WL on 3/15. Her Amherst FA portal never changed, still showed NCP info as not received as of 12/19 and she was accepted. No changes to Swarthmore, nor to Williams where she was also accepted. IME, these portal change rumors are without merit.

I’m kind of late to the game regarding this date change/no date change thing but wondering if this has happened in previous years and if anyone figured out back then the significance.

@Jenniferami I looked on last year’s thread and didn’t see anyone talking about it. . .

I’m beginning to think that Stanford is just downloading SAT/ACT scores for their own personal data. The date that they downloaded it couldn’t possibly speak to the decision they made regarding that applicant. . .that being said, when we find out our decisions, can we all agree to put our date change status? I’m just curious

Are the decisions expected on 29th this year?

Yes.

You could have also read posts on page 46 and 47 before.

@TheBeyonder, thanks for your post #678. It helps calibrate our anxiety levels days before the decision

My Scores:

Academic Score: 2 (ACT:36, UGPA: 4.00, WGPA: 4.43, SAT2 Math: 800, SAT2 Physics: 800, no state/national awards, no published papers).
Extracirculars Score: 2 (Mountaineering - scaled few mountains above 15000’)
Personality Score: 2.5 (Volunteered in NPO for 3 years. Director of this NPO wrote very good recommendation, I think  )
Essays Score: 3
Recommendations Score: 2
Hooks: None - Asian Male, decent family income with Parents being engineers.

Applied to Cornell for ED, got deferred. There are many talented students out there. Given Cornell deferral with 22% ED admit rate, there shouldn’t be any hope for Stanford. However, I am still hoping… few more days of anxiety…

Portals changes can swing either way, guys.

I was rejected from Barnard after fin aid request and portal change. Got into Wellesley with no fin aid request and no portal change. Got into Bowdoin after fin aid requests and no portal change. Got into CMC with a portal change and no fin aid.

I don’t think there is behind it, people who had their portals change will be accepted and rejected, people who had no portal changes will also be accepted and rejected.

Mine changed on 1st March which is too early right?

But the kid with the likely was a portal change kid…
